Al didn't just bring home the bacon, he brought home the bodies if he had to. Back when I was working for Al's primary bagman in Rochester, one of his biggest contributors kicked the bucket while on a trip in Sicily. Somewhere along the way, the Italian authorities lost his guy's body in Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Long story short, I spent the day delivering messages back and forth from my boss to Al's office in Rochester until the body of one Raymond C. Shaheen could be located and his timely passage could be secured in time for his burial mass that Saturday. If it wasn't for Alphonse, Ray Shaheen might still be wandering around Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.Mike the Lab Rat wrote:Al D'Amato was a scumbag, but dammit, he brought home the bacon.
Oh, and he's an Alpha Chi Rho, like me. Fun guy in person, once you get past the speech impediment.
When did mvscal get a new blue suit?

If you’ve ever heard President Chucklehead speak extemporaneously, you’d have to believe his IQ is somewhere near equal to his approval rating.Uncle Fester wrote:No, he is indeed a moron. That much I'm sure of.

Truth be told, for some time New York has been sending more money to Washington in the form of income tax revenue than it gets back from the federal government. And that was true as well while Al D'Amato held office. That's a major reason why our state and local taxes are so high, and have been since anyone can remember.Mike the Lab Rat wrote:Al D'Amato was a scumbag, but dammit, he brought home the bacon.
In fairness, that has more to do with the relative wealth of New York (particularly downstate) combined with the absence of any sizeable military bases in New York and the relatively small percentage of retirees living in New York than it does with the lack of diligence on the part of our Senators and Representatives.

The point, since you're obviously approaching braindead status, is that much of the money that state and local governments spend actually comes from the federal level. States that run a deficit in that regard, such as New York, have to make it up by raising the money at the state and local level.

Federal income tax doesn't have shit to do with rate of local and state taxes.

I never said that federal income tax affected local and state taxes. But the manner and extent to which federal revenues are distributed to the state and local governments most certainly does affect state and local taxes.mvscal wrote:Federal income tax doesn't have shit to do with rate of local and state taxes.
