Your 2006 Dallas Cowboys
Alright guys, I finally had the time to make the 2 hour road trip to Oxnard to watch the Cowboys scrimmage on saturday. Throughout this thread I will do my best to give my unbiased opinion on where I think the Boys stand this year. I know its only training camp and veterans don't go all out, but throwing that aside these were my observations. Pictures will follow once I get them downloaded.
Quarterback: Drew Bledsoe looks to be in very good shape and has a cannon of an arm. Obviously I didn't get to see the chemistry with T.O, so that was a little disappointing. However what was most disappointing is Bledsoe's inability to move the ball during the scrimmage. He was sacked (not literally, but would have been if it were a real game) 4 times in 6 drives. He also threw the ball away about 4 other times. Bottom line is he looked like shit.
Both Drew Henson and Tony Romo looked very good. Tony played with the second string and Drew played with the third string. I know they scrimmaged against the scrubs of the defense but they both led 4 touchdown drives out of 6 drives total. Not too shabby in my opinion.
Running Back: Easily the deepest part of our offense. The Boys don't miss a beat if JJ has to come out and Barber III goes in. They were both extremely effective in getting into the secondary. Highlight of the scrimmage was Keith Davis' late hit on barber out of bounds. Not sure why that was, but it was a big hit.
Wide Receivers: With T.O out of camp it gave me a chance to look at other receivers the Boys have. Glenn is Glenn and he will do just fine. Patrick Crayton looked to be a little lost which isn't a good sign. This is his third year I believe and Parcells reminded him of that a couple of times. Other receivers like Jamaica Rector and Sam Hurd really shined in practice, both making acrobatic catches.
Tight End: Witten is the man and Fasano needs to work a lot harder if he wants to sniff the football field. He probably dropped like 4 or 5 passes that should have been caught. I guess we'll wait and see how he pans out.
Offensive line: These guys are flippin huge. I mean massive. It was interesting watching Rob Pettiti start at left tackle with the first team. He more than held his own against the likes of Chris Canty and Demarcus Ware. I'm sure the job will go back to Flozell Adams once he gets conditioned but its nice to know Rob can step in and do a good job. The other guys did a good job but nothing eye-opening.
Defensive Line: I will go on record and say I will be extremely surprised if Chris Canty does not get double digit sacks this year. This guy is a freakin machine. Having himself and Demarcus Ware lined up on the same side is going to present a lot of confusion for opposing offensive lines. I am REALLY pumped about our defensive line.
Linebackers: Another solid group of machines. They have many different assignments, from rushing the Qb to covering wide receivers in the secondary. Heck Greg Ellis was lined up on Terry Glenn!! Speaking of the unhappy Ellis. Dude needs to shut his mouth and play his position. He did an outstanding job, and all this crap about how he doesn't want to play a new position is a bunch of BS.
Cornerbacks: The first team of Terrance Newman and Anthony Henry is as solid as anywhere else in the league when healthy. Their health will be a question mark, but they have potential to do a lot of damage, especially if QB's are hurried by Demarcus Ware and Co.
Safety: Not impressed with Roy or Keith back there. Aside from Davis' late hit on Barber, they failed to make some key plays. Willie Pile did a better job at free safety and Pat Watkins did a hell of a job making a case for himself as well.
Kickers/Special Teams: Who really gives a shite. Kickers were kicking and idiot kicker was making field goals. Nothing new to report.

What, Peerless Price isn't available for another stint?
Nice breakdown, DF. Good to hear an objective homer view of camp. Watching the HOF game last really got me jonesing for the NFL.
I'm guessing this will be Henson's last Rodeo if he doesn't make some leaps and bounds over previous play.
It's also good to hear Pettiti is looking decent. He showed some signs last year, but he sure got worked like a rook when Flozell went down and his help was being split.

Peerless is looking to lock down the #2 job in Buffalo. No, he has not gotten any better. The Bills just suck that much.Headhunter wrote:What, Peerless Price isn't available for another stint?
