a conjecture about the characterization of the three-dimensional sphere amongst three-dimensional manifolds. Loosely speaking, the conjecture surmises that if a closed three-dimensional manifold is sufficiently like a sphere in that each loop in the manifold can be tightened to a point, then it is really just a three-dimensional sphere.
Some shapes. This is like working out mvscal's logic process. Maybe Perelman can work this out for us all

Shouldn't it be in the Music Forum?

After all, there's just one thing I have to say...

I need a Miracle every day.

And then there is is Grigory Perelman.

Dude solves Poincare conjecture, which evidently is some math problem that the great minds of math have been unable to solve for over 100 years. He solves it, and then refuses to accept an award and the $1,000,000 cash that goes with it.
There is logic in that somewhere, even if he is the only one who understands it. Rack him.

For starters, he's only turned down the medal and a 10k stipend. The million dollar prize has yet to be determined.

As for why? Well it has occurred to me that not a one of us would know who the fuck Grigory Perelman is had he not refused this prize. Can you name any other Fields Medal recipient?
