Your work ride, is it worse than mine?

Post by Luther »

1989 Olds Cutlass Ciera...Fair condition. Nah, the above pic is NOT my car...

Kelly Blue Book has me at about $800

If you go to http://www.kbb.com you can figure out the value of your vehicle. I was honest as all hell, and gave mine a "fair" condition. The paint is a little faded on the hood and trunk. I was the only one in the family who offered to drive this thing home and claim it after Mama Luth assumed room temp a few years ago.

I can't say this is really my work ride, as I have no job. I let my wife claim the Expedition, Eddie Bauer edition, sup' Fu, and she also has a VW, sup' Ken.

I've got a piece of plywood on the ground beneath my 'Bubble to soak up the oil that is leaking from the oil pump seal. I proudly smoke cigars in my car...I can park anywhere and I don't worry about door dings. I don't have to worry about Lil Luth driving "my" car. If someone steals my car, I wouldn't lose any sleep.

Don't give me an entry that is your weekend pickup that you and your neighbors drive to the dump. Give me the car you drive pretty much every day.

RACK Luth.
Gimme a 'decent' set of wheels and I'm good with it.
Take care of it, regular maintenance, etc ....
Drive it 'til it won't go no more.

Take the 3 ... 4 .... $500 (or whatever) car payment you would be tossing in the toilet each month trying to project some sort of 'image,' and put it in a mutual fund.

You'll definitely be thanking yourself later on down the road.

No pun intended.

1988 Honda Accord

also bb's in about $800

when my grandma couldn't climb in and out of it anymore, I gave her $1000 cash for it. probably about 6 yrs ago. drive it around town everyday for work. needs about $600 in repairs/tires/brakes every year.

two winters ago I didn't have studs or chains on and tried my short commute in the lil honda in 10 inches of slushy snow. I came over a hill and just went "Bo and Luke" all over the road before scraping some old necks bumper on his 1970's chevy neckup truck. he didn't give a shit but I tore off the right rear door skin on my crashed up honda. I went to the fukken boneyard, found a door the same color for 70 bucks and put in on there myself. The fukken driver's window does not roll down. It needs breaks like today, only one speaker works on the am/fm.

I'll drive it until I run from it while it burns to the ground. No way I'd let the mrs drive it anymore, or throw the kids in the back seat. too sketchy. She rolls in the luxury mom bomb (sup Y2k)

rack drive'n em till they die

I only commute 2 day a week, but I do drive my gas guzzlin' battleship.

1999 F250 Crew, V10, 4WD, towing package, etc.

Trade-in value in good condition $11,555. I'm surprised it's that high, considering the gas mileage.

Private party value is $14,050. Anybody want to buy it?

Mine looks almost just like this (same color), except for the elephant ears, and mine has a shell.

2000 Black Ford F150 XLT
Extended Cab
4 Door
5-speed
4.6L V8

I has 62,000 miles on it when I moved from the city of Dallas to rural Southern Indiana a little over 2 years ago. With my 1.5 mile commute and always driving the wife's Envoy XL with the kiddo, I have only put 4500 miles on the truck in 28 months.

I only wish it had 4 wheel drive. The winters suck in that truck. I have to put 10 bags of sand in the bed so I'm not slipping all over the road.

Trade in value is $7750. Retail is $12,500.

Is anybody else waiting to see what Dins drives? HAHAHAHA. Unless he lies, I'd say he's going to check in with a mid 90's Honda or Toyota sedan. mvscal probably would drive something that screamed "I'm a DODGE RAM TRUCK YOU DUMBFUCK, GET OUT OF MY WAY." AP has a pick up, Y2K has a work pick up and probably a Mazda car. m2 has a VW van.

Not quite in your class Luth, but probably close. '97 Chevy Blazer, rated as fair, KBB kicked back a private seller value of $3200, trade-in about $1700    .

Went back and used the "condition quiz" and it rated as poor and would not give me a value. Thats more what I was thinking.

Pros: Engine and Drivetrain is in great condition, no problems. Power windows and locks work. Tow package comes in handy when I need to hook up a trailer on occasion.

Cons: CD player doesn't work, hasn't for several years since my son shoved God knows what in it. Dashboard Air Bag light has been on for about 6 months, hope I don't get in wreck cause I figure the light means the air bag won't work. Lots of little cosmetic things on the interior have popped off, go figure, it's a Chevy. The base of the passenger side mirror is almost cracked through and it wobbled alot until I applied a small metal plate and black duct tape. The driver side door is out of line so I have to give the door a reasonable slam to shut it properly. Based on some FHA and Insurance industry crash test studies i've looked at in the past the '97 Blazer is one of the more dangerous cars on the road.

As a general rule, it's an 89 Chev 3/4 ton longbed...fleet white Cheyenne. Got Mom's '78 Mustang Mach 1 (T-Top, V8...pretty rare as far as black sheep/stepchild Mustangs go). 36K original miles. Cheap plastic shit falls apart faster than I can fix it, and Ford doesn't carry ANY parts for it anymore. Generates conversation wherever I go, though.

m2 has a VW van.

I don't own it, but I pretty much have free access to the one under the tree in the backyard. It's a Kombi-btw. Indy 500, Kentucky Derby, and numerous Grateful Dead parking passes all over that sucker...it's been around.

You think a $300/month car payment projects an image? Good God... it's called... reliable transportation. Some of us have jobs and stuff and need to get to work on a daily basis.

Furthermore, most people I've known over the years who drive beaters speed hundreds of dollars/month (on the average) on repair and upkeep of said piece of fucking shit.

And lastly, for those of us fortunate enough to blessed with decent careers, we can afford a few hundred dollars/month on a car payment.

Are you one of those losers I see walking to work in their McDonald's gear everyone morning?

A couple of years ago I would have p@wned this thread with the '89 Mercury Sable wagon that my father-in-law gave me. Never seen so much rust on a car. The headlights were literally falling out so my wife duct-taped them back in ala the possum van from the Red Green show.

The end was near when a bunch of ratty-looking Messicans in a rattier looking car screamed at my wife, "Ey Lady, get a new car."

I stored it in the driveway for a while just to piss off the neighbors until one of them called Public Safety on me.

The car literally screamed as the tow truck hauled it away -- I think because the frame snapped and the little metal that was left was dragging on the ground.

Damn, I miss that sweet ride.

I have Access 2003 tutorials every Tue from 7-9 pm in the Theology Forum.

And for the record -- at present, the ride is a 93 Toyota 4X4.

Not mine, either. I've known it since it was new, though. What a battlewagon that beyotch is.

I've often maintained that Toyota makes the best engine/powertrain in the business...if you can keep the absolute piece-of-junk vehicle they install it in all in one piece...not an easy feat with a Toyo.

Sucker still runs like a top, like 200K later...after the grenaded timing chain/head got fixed. Was nice of my buddy to get that fixed, so I could immediately come over and abscond with his ride, for whatever length of time that I deem appropriate...because that is how I roll. In my defense, it hasn't been on the beach while in my care...YET. I'm glad he fixed the bad hub, too, just in case I want to partially submerge his truck in saltwater.

VERY happy with it. Rides smooth, great gas mileage, low maintenance, great handling, and has some kick to it.
