Madden 07

Post by Shoalzie »

One of the best days of the year...the release of the new Madden game. After I get out of work, I'll pick up my copy and play it for a few hours tonight around watching the Tigers-Sox game. The next gen console previews of the game look sick but I'm a PC-gamer. I play on my laptop...it's got a strong video card and I can hook it up to my TV and my surround sound system, it's pretty much like having a game console. I'm not expecting any surprises...the running game is supposed to be improved.

I was thinking of picking it up too and I'm a PC gamer too. Do you play online?

I've got wireless broadband in my house so I can use my laptop in my living room when I'm watching TV...I've definitely got the capability to do it. I'm game for it if you are...

Am I the first to be booted out of the league before the auction actually took place?

Early reviews from the PC side of things...

Very similar look to the gameplay...just a few graphic changes but pretty much the same product. The annoying QB vision cone thing is still in but thankfully you can turn it off. I don't think I paid attention to it before but the players are editable under player management. I'm a nerd for updated rosters so that's a good thing. Under options, you can better adjust the amount of injuries in a real game and in simulations. The one thing I never liked from before was the fact that no matter how high the injury meter was, you couldn't get any of your own players seriously hurt during a season. It was almost unfair that every other team could lose key players to injury but my team would always be healthy. Part of the NFL today is dealing with injuries and using your depth on your roster. I haven't tested it in a franchise yet but I would hope this would be the case.

Let's just say, if you were fine with Madden 06 with the PC, you'll be fine with this year's game because it's pretty much the same. From reading previews for NHL 07, it's pretty much the same story but at least they now have the salary cap. I'm not about to shell about the money for a console when all I play is Madden, NHL, FIFA and I could probably use a new golf game soon. I'd be curious to find out what is so special about the next gen version of EA Sports' games this year, aside of the sick graphics.

With my birthday fast approaching I'm counting on my lovely iwfe to buy me the new Madden.

I hope they did away with that scope thing on the PS2 version. It sucked! It was just a distraction.

You all are starting to worry me a bit! Where do you find the time to play games and maintain a huge post total in this dump?

The default setting is at 100% but you can go above that in the settings. I turned it up to 150% for regular game play and players were leaving the game every 6 or 7 plays with minor injuries. It looks like it actually has an effect.

I know one thing they were focusing on was the running game where you can control the lead blockers on a play. I frankly don't have the patience to fiddle with that crap, I normally just use the juke buttons and the spin button to bounce outside or just find the hole created by the line. I can probably do without that feature but I'm sure some gamers will find use for it. It's pretty much the same thing as the passing cone from last year...trying to add some additional option to have more control over the game play.

If I could add something to the game, I'd love to able have expanded rosters in the preseason and the ability to cut players to pair down the rosters each week. And for the regular season, have a taxi squad to pull players from in case of injuries. As I mentioned before, injuries and depth issues are one of the challenges for a team during a season...I'd like for that to be a bigger part of the franchise mode.

I played it more last night after the Tigers-Sox game...had to play the mini camps. Nothing has changed with them except the teams involved. That's still one of the best parts of the game. The running and the chase and tackle games are my favorites. I wish they could add more games but I don't know what aspect of the game isn't being utilized with the other games. Passing, running, catching, defending, kicking and punting...they've got all the key things covered.

What, do you work 16 hour shifts or something?

It's amazing how some of us have actually mastered how to do more than one thing in a 24 hour time span.

Just yesterday, after I got home from work, I managed to find time to bust out a few posts on this board (took about 6 minutes), play a game of NCAA 07 (about 25 minutes) AND took out the trash. Amazing, huh?
