calling all geeks, calling all geeks.....

Post by smackaholic »

Yesterday, after nonstopping nagging and bitching by lil miss smack about how we haven't enough ram to properly run her sims game, I went to the local puter store and bought some. I installed it and blew out all the dust bunnies while I was in there. I then powered it up, but, it was as dead as jtr's sex life.

I took the power supply back to the puter store. They checked it to be good. I then took the whole damn computer to my bro in law geek. He fiddled around and got it to work intermittently. Said something on the motherboard was dicked up.

This morning I fiddled some more and after having it go on and off a few times, I finally got it going. The first time I got it going I had no video signal. Wiggled somemore shit around and for the moment, it is up.

Any idears? Seems to me like the problem is in the area of the video card, but, I can't quite pinpoint it. Would taking the bodes out and spraying the connections with contact cleaner possibly help?

The motherbode is an intel D865PERL.

Do you have an onboard vid card or a separately isntalled on? If onboard (meaning it is attached to the motherboard), you may have fucked up something with your fat knobby hands while you were installing the RAM.

It worked before you added the RAM. It didn’t work after. Take the new RAM out and see if it powers up OK. If not, then you fucked something up. If it fires up as before, take the RAM back, and buy your kid a Barbie doll.

Buy a new computer with plenty 'o RAM.

Take the HD out of the old one and install in the new one as a secondary drive.
Copy all data you need to save onto the new HD.
Remove the old HD.
Take a sledge hammer to every piece of hardware that was ever associated with the old machine.

Well, it's still running. I'll keep my finers crossed.

Goob on mytube, it ain't the ram. I pulled that out, no difference.

Mikey, That is plan B if this POS acts up again.

PSU, fukk you too, you fukking fukk!!!!

I still think the problem lies somewhere on the motherbode in the vicinity of the vid card. I should have TiVO climb inside and start wiggling shit around while I surf.

"Daddy, can I play my video game?"

"Sure, honey...let me get out my silly straw and blow the decade-old detritus out of the motherboard and then pressure wash the jiz scales and spaghetti-Os off of the keyboard first..."

I'll have you know that I used my older than luther air compressor that I found in the dump about 8 years ago. That old one lunger thup-thup-thups it's way right up to 70 or 80 lbs in no time at all. I put my pointy air nozzle thingy attachment on the hose and that dried jizz and spaghettios never knew what hit'em. And the detritus was only about two years old. That's when this particular motherboard was installed

So what you’re saying, Cockaholic, is that you had a computer that was working fine, and you decided to make it better, and now it doesn’t work. Nice job, McGyver.

I think it's the light green wire. Cut it and pull it out of there.

eggzactly. It weren't broke, but, I decided to fix it, anyhoo!

Anyway, it seems to be fine now. Cruising along with a smoking 512zigawatts of ram. BTW, the fooking sims still locks up when she tries to save it. I am currently defragmentatin' the hd. Maybe that will fix it. If that doesn't do it, I may try degausing the wobbulator.

512mb ram? Honestly, that's not a lot. I wouldn't bother buying more, though...drop $400-600 on a gaming system that ships with a gig or 2 of ram. Retrofit your clunker for email/board surfing/jizzbasting.

Wash the whole thing with nice, hot, soapy water and it'll be good as new

No, it isn't a lot, but, it's fine for emailsurfjizzblasting. I'm not a gamer. If lilmiss smack wants a gaming system, she can buy one with her own dough, which, she should be earning in a few weeks when she turns 15 and starts working at our shiny new Big Y stupidmarket.

Damn if that last paragraph ain't ripe for a ftfy or two.

I think that your daughter after two weeks at the Y Stupormarket will have picked up more technical know-how than you have in your life to the present moment...wiggled, fiddled, nozzle thingy attachment. You sound like an HGTV renovation special.

If you can't speak the launguage, you shouldn't tryto operate the machinery, dipshit.
