Bucs’ Simms reportedly has spleen removed
Tampa Bay QB probably will be in hospital several days, mom tells NBC
Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms took several hard hits during the game and left for two plays in the second half. The team announced at that time that he was cramping, and the quarterback returned to help the Bucs take a fourth-quarter lead that the defense couldn’t hold.
TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms underwent an operation to have his spleen removed after Sunday’s 26-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers, NBC Sports reported.
Lisa Patterson, a spokeswoman for St. Joseph’s Hospital, said any other information would have to come from the Buccaneers, who declined to comment or confirm that the fourth-year pro was being treated a few blocks from Raymond James Stadium.
Judy Simms, Chris' mother, said Chris had his spleen removed, received a blood transfusion and probably will stay in the hospital several days, NBC Sports reported.
The Charlotte Observer had reported on its website that Simms was in critical condition, but Bucs general manager Bruce Allen denied that report, NBC Sports reported.

Simms walked from the field on his own power late in the third quarter and again at the end the game, which Carolina won when John Kasay kicked a 42-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Simms usually is made available for postgame interviews, however the Bucs said he would not speak to reporters because he was being examined by trainers and doctors.

Yikes !!!!
I hear the president had 'words of encouragement' for Chris this week.
I blame George Bush.
Get well soon, C. Simms.
Tough kid.
Shake it off, kid

I've got to think that losing a spleen is something you would not hope for. Kinda makes losing an appendix look like shaking off a sack. He definitely showed some sack comming back into the game after enduring that kind of pain. Maybe now his critics will cut him a little slack.

Fat chance of the latter happening, since the GM swings from Gruden's nuts.
Fist yourself. If it comes to US history or Politics you have BODE, but when it comes to football I will hand you your ass. Face it, Gruden is overrated and he made a poor choice in making Simms his franchise QB. Even if Simms were healthy all year, the Bucs were going to be any better than 6-10.
Yes, our o-line is suspect but it is virtually the same bunch that blocked for a 1175+ rusher a year ago. Simms 7 INT have put the team in a huge hole, therefor not allowing them to stay w/ the run. Gruden decided in the pre-season to have his QB throw all of 20 passes and Caddy to rush 3-4 times. The offense has no rhythm and that is attributed to Gruden not preparing this team the right way in the pre-season.
