We should just call it a hockey forum because we're not just NHL fans in here. I'm an avid fan of college pucks, many are fans of the minor leagues and Canada has the premier junior hockey on the continent. To call this just a NHL forum isn't enough. I think I'd be safe to say we all love the NHL the most but without it, there's still hockey somewhere else to watch and discuss.

It's Not All About Greed

Men attempt world's longest hockey game
WebPosted Mon, 14 Feb 2005 10:12:37 EST

Forty players donned gear and hit the ice for a third day Sunday in a bid to set the record for the world's longest hockey game.

Taking shifts, the men hope to keep the game going for 240 hours – 10 consecutive days – to beat the record of 203 hours set by a group in Sudbury, Ont., last year.

Brent Saik and his friends first set the record two years ago when they played 82 hours. They did it to raise money for cancer research in honour of Saik's father, who died from the disease in 1991.

After they set the record, his wife, Susan, also died of cancer.

Money raised from the latest game on Saik's acreage southeast of Sherwood Park in Alberta will help buy equipment designed specifically for children with cancer.

"We have a number 72 on our players box – and that's the average number of kids that get diagnosed with cancer in northern Alberta alone ... so next time we play we're going to have a lower number on our player's box, I hope," he said.

The disease has directly affected many of the players. Pictures of family members who died are posted at the makeshift arena.

One of the players, 35-year-old police Const. John Sorensen, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was 19 and underwent treatment for a year. His mother died of cervical cancer at age 48.

They Did It...HUGE RACKS
Am I wrong...God, I hope so.

Hockey is the greatest sport ever invented.

This coming from a 10 year noob of the sport who grew up in Socal racing dirt bikes and not skating till the ripe age of 27.

Hockey has my soul.
If any of you guys that don't play, because you don't think you can, but would like to try....I encourage to go look for a noob program and do it. It will be the most fun you've ever had.

I'd probably lend more to the discussion if Minor leagues were discussed. Other than watching the Penns I just don't care for the NHL much any more. Me and some friends used to get together on NHL Hockey night for ESPN and tote a couple of TVs outside. Usually had ESPN on one and if the Panthers were playing anyone interesting on Sunshine we would have a second TV tuned in, on the rare occasion that Fox had an interesting Lightning game on their could be as many as three TVs propped outside. Nothing was better than watching all the cold yankees while we enjoyed hockey over looking the west pass and a cold brew. Any ways a bit of subject but I still like Minor league hockey more.
