1st eagle in about 3 years for me today

Post by Ken »

God, it's been a while. I was freaking due, to say the least.
Par 5, 536 yards. Driver/3W to pin high, 'bout 30 feet off the green. Pin about 20-30 feet onto the green.
With all the rain we've had of late, relatively easy chip to get reasonably close. Carried it about 4/5ths of the way to the pin, two hops, little check-up, trickled into the heart of the hole.

Well done, Ken.

Thanks, everyone.

The last eagle I remember getting came the same way...leaving the putter in the bag.

Yesterday afternoon, a buddy and I took advantage of the last Twighlight Special at Eastmoreland. I think it's #7 is the first par 5, about 500 yards, or maybe 490 or something...they grouped a solo kid with us, and we moved to the white tees for his benefit(we don't do whites during the Dry Season...sup Ken). My bud spanked a drive pretty good, probably 290 or something...nothing outrageous, but a decent poke(I wasn't too far behind him, but caught the driver a little on the thin side). Buddy looks like caged lion eying a piece of meat as he pulls out a 4 iron. I busted up when he missed by a mile to the right. In semi-anger, he throws down another ball, and puts the sucker a couple of feet from the hole...I laughed even more.

Of course, I three-putted for bogey(after lipping the bird), which brought my laughter to a quick end.

I just haven't been gettoing out as much as I'd like, and have sucked harder than usual as a result. I usually string together 5-6 holes of sheer brilliance(not so much yesterday), then tank the others so badly that it erases anything positive from the other holes.

I have had 2 eagles, but one was on a pretty short par 4.

Kings Valley Golf Course outside Crescent City CA...par 4 ...266 yards..drove the fucking green about 3 feet from the pin... dropped the putt. Kinda of lame, but eagle is eagle.

Of the small handful of par 4's I've ever hit in one, not once has the putt ever even been in the same area code as the cup.

Last one I remember, I was on #1 at Killarney(sup Derron). 5 wood, over the trees...had been raining a little, stuck like a lawn dart...pin high, about 20 feet left of the cup. Almost flat putt on a damp greem -- aim for the middle, and whack it hard...

So I'm as cool as the back side of the pillow. No nerves, like I was born to make putts like that. Practice swing...perfect. Stand over ball, no sweat...take club back...make contact.

20 foot putt. Putt rolls...oh, say...about 9-10 feet. Second putt...well, at least I got that one within 3 feet...but I nailed that short one, though.

Few things are more painful on the course that a 3-putt par...especially on a par 4. The course I mentioned has some hittable 4's, though...pretty short.
