NY Islanders

West:

Screw you JD,

I have no idea what type of reverse prediction anti-jinxing theory you've got going on here, but seriously Edmonton 1st and Calgary 15th? What's up?

Well I just think that Edmonton has improved so much by adding so much scoring with Sykora and Lupul and this is the new NHL and so the Oilers are totally built to succeed. On the other hand the Flames can't score and adding Tanguay won't help because losing Leopold means they'll never get out of their own zone so scoring will go even worse.

It will be a long year, I'm afraid!

Switch Tanguay for any oiler and Leopold for Pronger and this is my consern about Edmonton. Their D is so young that they won't be able to get the puck to all their potential 20+ goal scores I keep hearing about.

However I don't see Tanguay as the savior for Calgary. He's a just slightly improved version of Steve Reinprect.

Phoenix SUCKS, no way the Kings finish below them, adding shit like Roenick and Nolan isn't going to help them, and Gretz will be looking for a new job by the end of the season. He isn't a good coach.

Phoenix was a decent team with a lot of pieces already in place. They have good young talent and a solid D corps to go along with those vets that are more likely to hit the links than the gym after practice.

Certainly the "winning environment" won't be prevailent in Phoenix, but I think they have enough talent to go on a couple hot streaks over the course of the year. They'll get enough wins to jump ahead of LA.

As for the Kings, their lack of veterans will hurt them. They're a young up-and-coming team whose time is not now.

Plenty of vets on the Kings...Blake, Norstrom, Miller, Thornton, Conroy among others. With Mark Crawford running the team, I expect them to suprize alot of people.

Other predictions:

Hasek will get hurt in the first week or month, but will still win 25 games(40 starts).

Bertuzzi will have a 100 point season in Florida.

Luongo will still see a lot of rubber, but will win more than 30 games and finish among the leagues best(top 5) in GAA.

Thomas Vanek(who?) will score 40 goals.

So will Alex Frolov.

Alex Tanguay will win the Wayne Gretzky award as the league leader in assists.

Ken Hitchcock will get even fatter.

The Kings will be the most improved team in the league.

"Among others"? Like who? Sean Avery?

Miller will get his customary 35 games in, and that leaves 4 veterans. Not enough, IMO. The team will have to be carried by the younger players, and they will for stretches, but not enough.

Cloutier/Garon is a step up from Garon/Labarbera.

Kings are going to have a lunchpail gang mentality and a coach that has balls unlike Andy Murray.

Have you seen any Canucks games in the past 5 years? Going from Andy Murray to Crawford is like going from a Ferrari to a Yugo. Crawford is a garbage coach and the only "balls" you'll see from him are the balls of his players hanging in his face in the post game shower.

Ha.... that comment was totally out of line, moon!

But about Crawford, maybe if you consider sending Bertuzzi and May over the boards to stalk Steve Moore "having balls", I suppose you're right.

After the dust settles, I ended up with 12 of 16 playoff teams and I nailed the matchup for the Cup Finals. Didn't think it would be Emery taking the Sens to the Finals though. The Vezina pick looks pretty good although Brodeur is worthy as well.

I tell ya, I wish I could've put some money down on that pick. I don't know if Vegas offers that kind of trifecta or not. This pretty much guarantees that I'll completely flub up next year's picks.
