A few times the subject of guitar and kids guitar playing has come up on the board, and today my kid showed me this video that he found on Utube so I thought there may be a few folks here who might like to hear it. It's a pretty amazing guitar version of the Pachelbel Canon in D, written in 1680. Not like the canon is unusual in pop culture because it's been all over the place for commercials and the like, but the kid playing this does a great guitar interp of orchestra, definitely worth the listen. Starts out a bit slow and then the kid cranks it up.

Straight-up awesome.
Hopefully, the kid developes a little more personal style, since that piece sounds like...too many other people. Kind of like if you mixed...Dimeola with Paul Gilbert or something(expect a 15,000 word essay on this from Van any time now).
Freaking awesome chops, though.

I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one
Strange thing...I live with two musically talented computer geeks (hubbie and kid) and my hubbie told me that he saw the video from metafilter way before the kid found it on Utube, and the responses on metafilter were like what Dins said...too technical. Thing is, most any wonderful thing with some staying power to it has the combo of an inventive artistic bent with a solid technical background (Michelangelo seems to work well for the most extreme example), so I'm thinking if this kid can play Pachelbel so well on electric guitar now...he has a choice of roads ahead of him and is driving a Hummer :).
Pretty good! A little overdone after a short while. The "Cannon," unfortunately, doesn't have a bridge or any Bach-like harmonic character. But at least he's not playing video games , or praying for an Apocalypse.

That guy was a lot better when he was strung out and drinking hard.
He would jump on the bed, play whole phrases with his teeth while holding the guitar between his legs and behind his back.
Simply awesome.
And the light show!!!
Does he still spit blood and blow fire from his arse?
Dude was nails on the 2003 tour...

Ok, a few things...
First, give credit to JerryC who arranged that version of the Canon. The kid is playing along with a version that JerryC offers on his website with the guitar part potted way down. if you listen hard, you can hear the original guitar in the back ground. He also has the tab for that song. So this kid didn't arrange this, and most likely worked off of a tabbed version.
Second, the kid has some very good technique. I have no idea how old that kid is, but he has some very solid right hand work on that piece. solid alternate picking, with some good economy of motion, as well as some nice sweep picking. Give it up for the kid. Tab or no tab, he put in some hard work.

No disrespect for this kid intended. As young as he looks, he's got a future playing guitar!
