6.3 quake hits Hawaii

Post by Bobby42 »

CNN now reports there were two quakes. Hope folks there have stored enough ice.
HONOLULU, Hawaii (CNN) -- A strong earthquake rumbled underneath the islands of Hawaii on Sunday, the National Earthquake Information Center reported on its Web site.

The quake had a magnitude of 6.3 and was centered 153 miles southeast of Honolulu, the NEIC said.

Bruce Pressgrave of U.S.Geological Survey said preliminary reports indicate the quake was centered along the West coast of the Big Island.

The temblor struck at 7:07 a.m. local time (1:07 p.m. ET) and was measured at a depth of almost 15 miles.

KITV reporter Keoki Kerr in Kaneohe, Hawaii, said he hadn't heard of any serious injuries, although it was difficult to reach people at that time.

Electrical power was out in some parts of the capital city of Oahu, and there were reports of landslides, said Kerr.

Erik von Ancken, a reporter from Orlando, was vacationing in Hawaii with his fiancee.

"My fiancee and I -- we were walking on some of the paths by the ocean. The fish in the pond started jumping. ... The windows on the buildings started to shake," he said. "People started to run for higher ground. ... There was a lot of fear."

Yeah, big deal....there was a 2.5er very near my house night before last.

I might have been terrified, had I felt it.

I think you'll find that was a fart, not an earthquake. Any more exaggeration, Ore-gonad?
