About a year ago, I met the online editor of the Rocky Mountain News. The RMN has set up an online "community," all seperate Web sites for all their suburbs, then they print pretty much everything that is posted, once a week, for each.

Anyway, I met dude at a forum, but before so, I asked him a question, in public, after he gave his talk about the benefits of an online community, yada yada. After his talk, I raised my hand and said, "So, if Raider Fan, insists on carrying out his argument among Bronco Fan, and if they get into it, does anybody police it?"

Him: "We let our users decide. But if your question is, if Raider Fan makes our community mad, do we, as an online source, censor him? The answer is no.

Me: "So then how do you prevent Raider Fan from going out of control?"

Him: "We don't."

Me:

"How?"

Him: "Well, if there's something really objectionable, our users will let us know, and if someone reports him, we'll take action, if there's anything illegal about it, otherwise, we pretty much let everything flow.

So after the clapping and everything, I walked down from the auditorium, and shake hands with dude.

Me: "No way you let everybody get away with shit. I've been posting on a 'smack board,' based on the Jim Rome show. It's a lot of fun, but there are times when people's threads have to be moved to like a trash forum."

Him: "Yeah, I understand what you are saying. We haven't reached that point yet."

Me: "You haven't? On my board, we have folks from all around the country who log into our board -- mostly professionals -- lawyers, media types, tech nerds, desk monkeys -- basically a lot of loyal guys who enjoy a good fight or laugh."

Never been a big fan of totally free for all boards with no one in charge. Without moderation to a certain extent, especially on the topic boards (CFB, MLB, Politics, etc.) you will eventually get over run by tards and end up like all the other SC boards have, in the internet dumpater.

This board has a good balance IMO, tending less towards the scat pics and grade school humor than a lot of the other boards do.

Props to all those who take time out of their shitty little lives to moderate a forum here. I like it here myself. I mean I wouldn't really boast about playing here to anybody I really knew or anything. It is kind of like boasting about a certain porn star at a family reunion...the looks you'd get and the open mouths at the banquet table.

This place easily has the most people who bring the funnay, who bring a political argument, who even have a decent recipe for a rump roast. The only problem here is that we don't participate enough. We've got some people MIA too: Toddowen, JHawkBCD, Catfish, ML@coyote, 3Putt, Ppanther, Sandman, InkyDave, Mild7, Mace's bastard party shorts, Rick in Salt Lake and others...but for all those who are missing, or to all those who never came here, and to all those that have been banned here, we have DINSDALE. Dinsdale is our "edge," he's our split fingered fast ball, our rope-a-dope, our Mary Lou Retton with balls, our resident Bob Vila, our Stephen Hawking, our Hunter S. Thompson.
