i think that's great. i might quibble a bit with Castiglione's semantics but he's PR guy who thinks all of life is "business".
locally, i give props to the CU kid.

Could he use his football scholarship for graduate school (if he is staying in Norman), and postpone this award until the following year?Believe the Heupel wrote:Yes, he is.Killian wrote:Is he a redshirt junior? Just curious. That's amazing and a very unselfish thing to do. Major racks to him.

I understand, but if he got through one more year of football, he would be 2/3's of the way through his grad school tuition free. Not a bad thing.Believe the Heupel wrote:However, it's pretty apparent that the main thing he wants to do is go to school and take care of his little brother without disrupting the poor kid's life too much.

Congrats to Mr. Pendleton. As Frozen mentioned, he gets it.
I love reading story's like these, especially after reading a story like this
Chauncey Washington, Fig Tech Scholar
From today's OC Register:

Chauncey goes on to say that he wants to declare for the draft early. Dude, you're not supposed to admit that you're only at $C to play ball! They have an academic reputation to uphold! (snicker) The article doesn't mention that Chauncey became academically eligible again by taking an entire semester of dance classes, in preparation for his "Dancing with the Stars" appearance after his NFL career is over.

No one really likes school, or at least I don't. But you have to do it to play ball. My parents want me to graduate, but, to be honest, I don't like school at all.

Honestly this is the kind of stuff that keeps me a fan of college sports. Congrats to a very high quality young man. Just goes to show that even at the big time football programs not everyone is semi-pro player looking for the big payday.

The Ting twins at USC skipped their senior seasons this year to both enroll at the Keck School of Medicine at USC.
I dont think they redshirted though so may have had 2 years of eligibility left
That one had an what would have been a game ending interception last year in the Rose Bowl in his hands and instead swatted the ball away to Trojan fans shagrin and a mention of steroids with one of their names though made the decision to leave early less noteworthy, they also didnt decide to do it until summer after having gone through Spring practice and the Spring game

Ahhh, you could say Smith did that. When he came to tOSU, he had pretty high expectations for himself in footall and in the rest of his life. He was pre-med and during his sophomore year there was some conflict as to what actually happened. Here is a quote:
So whether he took off for academics or differences w/ the coach, who knows. That second part makes me think it was the latter or a combination of both and I can't blame him for thinking long-term. I always liked him and I was glad someone with that kind of character played at tOSU.Smith said offensive coordinator Elliot Uzelac demanded he miss two classes to attend practice. Rather than bend to what he considered an unreasonable order, Smith sat out his sophomore season Coincidentally or not, the coach was fired the next winter. Smith then suited up and told The Plain Dealer.
"If I go out this fall and rush for 2,000 yards, if we win the Big Ten championship and I win the Heisman Trophy, if I go on to become a doctor and find a cure for cancer, then become president of the United States, there will still be people that will call me `that prima donna that got Coach Uzelac fired.'"
