Congratulations to the Cardinals

Post by Shoalzie »

I didn't want to believe that this amazing run could end but the Tigers found another way to shoot themselves in the foot again. Another costly error by a pitcher...it's bizarre that the same mistake can be made over and over again. I will bow to the new champions but the Cardinals didn't face the same Tigers team that won 7 in a row entering the World Series. This was a disappointing way to end a magical and unlikely season. I feel spoiled and at the same time very heartbroken. Congratulations to the fans of the Cardinals on the board...I believe this is where I'm supposed to be given my "punishment".

(YankeeFan, you can now get rid of your OWNYED sig...)

Why is it called the World Series when all but one team is in the US?

St. Louis, are not World Champions like the TV and Commissioner state.

Japan are the World Champions. St. Louis is nothing but the American champions. It is just typical americam arrogance that they say "World Champions" yet I remember last spring America was eleiminated inthe first round of playoffs in the World Baseball Classic.

I actually saw Big Mac on TV this week attending an Anaheim Ducks game...I guess he's buddies with Chris Pronger. That's why Pronger is wearing #25 for the Ducks. Mac had a hot blonde sitting next to him as well...I don't think it was Pronger's girlfriend from Edmonton.

Props Adel. Better team lost here. Enjoy your "given in a hand-basket" world series.

Hope you lose a kidney tonight. ;)

Oh well, Cards' 105 wins in 2004 and 100 wins in 2005 didn't do 'em much good.

But given those years, I think they deserve this one.

I didn't say they didn't deserve it.

I just have a lil sour grapes on this one, rook.

this is old school baseball. one of classiest franchise in baseball(cards) vs a rich history tiger team.

only a yankee cardinal series would of been better for old school baseball fan.

I want to leap out of my skin whenever I hear about the ratings and how that seems to be the determining factor over whether or not it's a good World Series. As adel said, it's a great old-time matchup. I can give two shits if the rest of the country was watching it...I know they've got more entertaining things to watch. People in Michigan and Missouri were glued to their TVs and frankly, those are the only people that matter. You aren't a real baseball fan if you thumb your nose at any matchup. No one has any control over how this will turn out...the whole "no one can script October" thing. Who would've predicted a Tigers-Cardinals World Series? I couldn't drink enough Tiger koolaid to think that I'd be watching my team in October. I'm just grateful they made it this far. I wanted the big prize but I would like to think that this isn't the last time this collection of talent will contend for a ring. I think this is the start of something good in Detroit.

Once again, congrats to the Cardinals...I can grumble about the Tigers miscues all I want but that isn't going to change anything. The team that played the best baseball won.

would you guys have watched if it had been arizona/minnesota? seattle/milwaukee? if the cards weren't in it, i'd still have watched it because it was the world series. there's a difference between being a baseball fan and a homer. baseball fans watched the series. homers bitched about it.
Rack enolc..

I didn't get chance to see or listen to the game last night because of work, but I had every other game in this series tuned on because it was the series.

Now did the fact that it wasn't the Yankees or Braves or some other team that's made an appearance in the series over the past few years make it that much more entertaining?

Probably.. but I'd have watched regardless, because it's the series.

:meds:

Weak excuse adel... the U.S just lost to a better team. Simple as that.
Same as when Team Canada loses to a better team in world hockey chamionships..
It's not about weak excuses, it's admitting your team sucked/choked or just wasn't good enough to beat
a better team.

And your excuse why team USA lost the world basketball championships would be...?

the euro and south american teams play better fundamental basketball

the americans dont take pride in playing for team usa. the dominicans, puerto ricans, mexicans, etc all take pride in wearing their team colors. team usa does it for shit and grins, they played with no emotion, and the team they put together wasnt the best usa has.

Well there's something I never thought I'd see..

Americans being equated as 'having lack of pride for their country'

I can probably agree with you on the "team usa does it for shit and grins" comment though.

But that's because the pride level wouldn't allow them to see that they weren't the best team out there.. And what served them up a slice of humbled pie...

i was in vegas for ncaa tourney when they played team mexico.

we played $25 bucks a piece on team mexico(+580). you could tell team USA was toast, the fork was stuck in them.

no emotion when they were losing or knocked out, not suprising. they expect to walk out there and dominate, coast, and win.

I've watched every World Series for as long as I can remember...the Tigers weren't in any of those. Some series are better than others but baseball is second only to hockey with me. Baseball has also been a favorite sport of mine. I think this year rekindle some of my enjoyment of the sport with the Tigers run but I have always enjoyed watching the postseason. In previous years, I'd watch the Tigers for three or four months before they got knocked out of the race and then I'd sort of wait until the playoffs started and I'd watch as much of it as I could. I'm not wishy-washy about who plays...it's still the World Series. The Angels-Giants series wasn't memorable but that still went 7. I thought the Red Sox run in '04 was entertaining starting with the comeback on the Yankees down 3-0...and I can't stand the Red Sox. This World Series obviously meant more to me because my team was in it but had the A's beat the Tigers and played the Cardinals instead...I still would've watched.
