Damon Huard causes QB controversy
When Trent went down, I thought that was pretty much SEASON OVER for KC. Who knew this guy was going to come in and perform like the second coming of Tom Brady? Certainly not moi.
The guy has very simply been nailz, even today when he supposedly had a tweaked groin and eveyone in KC was gripping over Brody Croyle making his first start as an untested rookie.
So what's he do? Goes out and throws for 312 yards, zero INT's, and one TD. He now has 8 TD passes and one INT in 5 games as a starter. He's easily in the top 5 in QB rating's and has a 4-2 record as a starter.
Which brings me to my question. Should Trent Green replace Huard as the starter when he's 100% ready to go?
The Herminator says that Trent Green is his starter, and I can understand that decision. Trent's had 4 consecutive 4,000 yard seasons, and has proved his mettle. But how in hell do you bench Huard when he's been playing this well?
This is a good problem to have, I guess... as long as they continue to win.

In this case, it's a smart move to let Trent get his job back as long as the MD reports
and how he plays in practice indicate his readiness.
Having a quality dependable back up is important! If Trent is not ready, you
know Huard can deliver.
Next Year, you can trade Huard or Green (doubtful) around draft day.
Huard is definitely ready to start in the NFL and there are many teams that
will be willing to give high draft picks for a proven QB.

Huard is OLD.
Huard will remain a back-up QB.
TRinT will have his job back when he is declared able.
if TRinT fails then Huard might be given back the reigns...and, if that happens...that will lead to offseason Chaos...
nobody will Trade for either...one is damaged goods and one is old.
(wait?...the Dolphins might have a need....)

He's 33, and Trent is 36.Qbert wrote:Huard is OLD.

Huard has less mileage on him too.
If Trent comes back and struggles, even in the slightest way, you can damn sure bet there'll be a QB controvery.
We went thru this shit back in '97 with Gannon and Grback-up, and they made the wrong damn decision then. I don't want it to be deja-vu all over again.

Sure he is. He's a mere 33 years young and ready to blossom. If Deion Branch is worth a 1st rounder then surely a 10 year veteran and former 2 TIME World Champion New England PATRIOT, is worthy of AT LEAST a 2nd rounder. Check his stats. He's averaged 12 starts and 3100 yards passing over his amazing career.... oh wait. Those are his career numbers.
Jack is quite possibly the dumbest "sports" poster on this board. He's currently #2 on my "Don't Even Respond, This Poster Is A Complete Fucking Tard" list. He recently moved ahead of Diogenes and has his sights sqarely set on M2DROOL.

Normally, I would agree. But not this time.poptart wrote: That said, it seems to me that Green would still take over the yob when he's able to put the drool bucket aside.
Don't get me wrong, nobody digs Trent's leadership ability and prior accomplishments more than I do. But that said, exactly how many playoff games has he won here so far? Hell, how many times has he even made the playoffs?
I say that you stay with the hot hand of Huard until he starts struggling. If and when that happens, you can always make the change, but not unless it occurs.
This game is all about winning, and Damon Huard is proving that he can get that job done.
On the flip side, if you bring back Trent the moment that he's supposedly ready and he struggles and they lose, then you've got a full blown controversy that won't be quieted by re-inserting Huard.

Huard is making QB job interesting
JASON WHITLOCK
The Kansas City Star
The 51-yard dime that Damon Huard unspooled to Eddie Kennison in the final minutes Sunday saved Ty Law from postgame embarrassment, killed the visiting Seahawks and birthed a premature quarterback controversy.
We should remember this play. It rescued the Chiefs from a potentially season-turning defeat and stamped them and their backup quarterback as legitimate threats.
We began the day wondering whether Huard’s groin would allow him to play. We ended it convinced that Trent Green shouldn’t rush back from his concussion. Damon Huard’s hot hand needs plenty of time to cool.
He scorched the Seahawks with it, completing critical downfield passes to Tony Gonzalez throughout the day and unleashing the big one to Kennison shortly after Seattle had burned a fallen Law and taken a one-point lead.
Huard’s bomb set up Larry Johnson’s game-deciding fourth touchdown in Kansas City’s more-difficult-than-it-should’ve-been 35-28 victory over the starless Seattle Seahawks.
“I know who my quarterback is,” Kansas City coach Herm Edwards said, referring to Green.
No doubt, Green is KC’s franchise quarterback and unquestioned leader, but Huard should remain the starter until there is some sign of trouble.
“Damon is making it hard on Trent,” Edwards joked. “(Damon) has won all of the games.”
Huard is 4-2 as a starter. You can’t pin the Denver loss on Huard. The Chiefs lost that game the week after Green suffered a concussion and with a game plan more conservative than Ann Coulter. The ladies of Passion Party can claim credit for the Chiefs lying down in Pittsburgh.
Huard isn’t making things tough on Green. If Huard keeps this up, he’s going to make things tough on Herm Edwards, offensive coordinator Mike Solari, quarterbacks coach Terry Shea and Chiefs fans who remember Elvis Grbac vs. Rich Gannon in 1997.
This thing is starting to smell like Grbac-Gannon, except Green is far more respected and liked by Chiefs players and fans.
Sticking with Huard is not a statement about Green. He’s a proven Pro Bowler. He’s a warrior. But the reality is he suffered a major injury, and at age 36, there’s no way to know how he’ll play coming off a severe concussion.
Will he play as well as Huard has the last two Sundays?
Against the defending NFC champions, Huard threw for 312 yards and one touchdown. He completed 17 of 25 passes. All three times the Chiefs trailed on Sunday, Huard rallied them.
“Incredible. Incredible,” tight end Tony Gonzalez said, speaking of Huard’s resiliency.
Huard saved his best rally for last. The Chiefs appeared to be in the process of blowing a game they had led 27-14. They’d let Seattle back in the game by surrendering a 61-yard fumble return on a botched field-goal attempt and Law falling down on a 49-yard touchdown pass.
The Chiefs got the ball back with 6 minutes, 25 seconds to play and trailing by a point.
Huard opened the drive with an 11-yard pass to Kennison. After a 1-yard run by Johnson, Huard hit Gonzalez for 11 yards. Johnson lost a yard on a run; then Huard dropped back to pass, stood firm against the rush and floated a perfect strike to Kennison along the Seattle sideline.
“I can’t say enough about Damon Huard,” Edwards said.
Well, he could say Huard is the starter. But there’s no reason to right now. There’s no reason to say anything. Green won’t be back for a couple more weeks. Green has the kind of injury that can be finessed and prolonged if necessary.
If Huard stays hot, Green may not get “100 percent” healthy until the offseason.

The issue the Chiefs have with Gonzo is that were they to franchise him, his tender would annihilate their salary cap. ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the tender could possibly be as high as 8 figures.
Of course I'm sure the Broncos would love to have a sleek, pass catching TE for Cutler to lean on next year.

More on Gonzo from PFT
Could you just imagine Gonzo in RAIDER gear?CHIEFS WON'T FRANCHISE GONZALEZ
Word out of Kansas City is that the Chiefs won't place the franchise tag on tight end Tony Gonzalez, who is expected to void the final two years of his current contract after the 2006 season and become a free agent.
Jay Glazer of FOX reported on Sunday that Gonzalez can leave Kansas City after the season if he so chooses. The rest of the "real" media, however, has ignored the story.
Although the franchise tender for tight ends is low (it was only $3.3 million for 2006), the CBA states that the amount that the team must put on the table to trigger the franchise rights (i.e., first refusal on any other offers and compensation in the amount of two first-round draft picks) is either the average of the top five salaries at the position or 120 percent of the player's salary for the prior year, whichever is greater.
And although some league insiders believe that "salary" means Paragraph 5 base salary only, it actually means the player's full cap number, which is base salary plus bonus proration and any other payments made in a given season.
In Gonzalez's case, we've learned that his cap number for 2006 is $6.53 million. Thus, the Chiefs would be required to offer Gonzalez $7.83 million in order to hold his rights for 2007.
Given the magnitude of the number, we're told that the Chiefs won't use the tag on Gonzalez.
Moving forward, our guess is that Gonzalez will become a free agent in March 2007, and that he will strongly consider leaving for another team if he gets an offer significantly higher than what the Chiefs will pay.
The Redskins can always be counted on to throw cash at a recognizable name. The Raiders are an intriguing possibility, given that Gonzalez played college ball at Berkeley. Other potential destinations (in our view) include the Jets, the Texans, the Vikings, the Lions, the Panthers, the Saints, and the Seahawks.

umm, Lames?
You just posted the exact same article that B_ posted, only one post removed.
Just exactly how fucking stupid are you?
Don't bother answering.
WAR... paying at least some attention before making a complete fool of yourself for the umpteenth time.
Fuck off from my thread anyway, dipshit.
-------------
My take stands.
Damon Huard should continue to roll the dice until he throws craps. If and when that happens, you then hand the reins back over to Trent.
No brainer.... Shut up, Paul.

Nice reading comprehension you ignorant fuck. Paul isn't wrong. Your own post says he will leave unless he gets paid accordingly by the Chiefs. Which is exactly what Paul was saying. Carl will most likely pay the man. He don't want the public relations hit he would take if Gonzalez was allowed to leave. Gonzalez has also stated many times that he wants to remain a Chief his entire career.

No matter what? Great take.KC Paul 3.0 wrote: Nope- you bring Trent back against the 'Duhs AT HOME on Nov. 19.....NO MATTER WHAT.
What if he ain't ready?
If KC wins the next two games and Huard continues to perform like he has thus far, then something (common sense) tells me that Trent won't be ready.
Then again, you were saying that Trent should come back at Miami, so I guess you've come to your senses somewhat (as much as that's even possible) and backpedaled off that noise.
And I'll agree to some extent. If Herm just fucking insists that Trent be the starter "NO MATTER WHAT", the best time to bring him back is at HOME against that sad sack team that RLamesR'Us props.
Is that how I sound? Not at all.Jesus Christ Wags, you fucking sound like all the other dipshits who've been calling the local talk shows with their "Yeah, remember when they put Grbac back in for Gannon..."
Gannon was a better QB than Grbac. I'm not saying that Huard is better than Trent. I'm saying that you don't fix what's not broken. Even you should be able to understand the logic of that concept.
Nope. I'll leave the legacy of you fondling KW's ballsack go unchallenged.Holy Crap, next thing to come out of your WebTV will be "Huard is the next Kurt Warner!".
