As for "holding judgement" on me, well, all you're doing is lumping me in with SoCalTrjn and damning me with Guilt By (tenuous at best) Association, and for absolutely no good reason. So, in light of that, go ahead and take your reserved judgement and shove it up your sanctimonious ass.

When you can't tell the difference between me and SoCalTrjn (or anybody else) then you're in no position to be judging anybody here...

Van I realize that USC lost a lot of talent, but I think that tOSU lost even more to underclassmen declairing. Especially on defense where they only brought back 2 guys none in their back 7.

Besides USC has had the #1 class 3 of the last 4 recruiitng classes. Talent is not the problem, I consider the problem to be that USC was living off their exploits from last year more than off what this team could do. It's a common problem that successful team go through. Texas is doing the same thing this year as well. You can always tell when it happens because said team will consistantly play down to the level of their opponent until it bites them in the ass.

Generally it takes a wakeup call for a team to realize they have to play hard to earn that ranking, I think this is where USC is right now.

Hopefully these two close games will wake Texas up, but I doubt it.

Vito, no, besides Santonio Holmes OSU didn't lose underclassmen of the caliber of Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Darnell Bing, Winston Justice and Taitusi Latui...much less all at once.

We're talking Reggie freaking Bush here. Besides VY there's nobody else out there who could even come close to approximating that sort of key underclassman and Reggie was only one of many key Trojans who left early.

As for USC's problem, no, it's not USC being a bit out of control under Pete Carroll, as somebody else here posited. It's also not a situation of resting on their laurels and taking things for granted.

Here's what it is:

-No Norm Chow. Lane Kiffin may be Chow's protege but he couldn't carry Chow's abacus. Kiffin downright sucks as Chow's replacement as OC, is how most USC people feel.

-No replacement for Reggie Bush. USC has no real explosive ability on offense now. They have no one difference making weapon that makes a DC have to coordinate his entire scheme with an eye towards stopping one guy who can score from anywhere on the field.

-No replacement for Lendale White. Amidst all the Reggie Bush/Matt Leinart hoopla people overlooked the fact that Lendale White was USC's and the Pac 10's all time leading TD scorer and he was their main go to guy for tough yardage. He was also USC's leading ground gainer and clock killer. Lendale White was an absolute NCAA Hall Of Fame back. Chauncey Washington's merely been serviceable as Lendale's replacement. Moody and Gable have shown nice flashes of explosiveness, but nothing upon which we can hang our hat all game/season long and certainly nothing along the lines of Reggie Bush.

-No fullback, at all!! We lost FOUR FUCKING FBs, one after the other, right from the first game of the season. Whereas we used to have a horse there the last few seasons, now we have...nothing. Nobody. No FB. All season long.

-40% of the offensive line, the best 40%, the absolute anchor of our team, went off prematurely to play in the NFL. Offensive lineman aren't supposed to leave early. That shit just doesn't happen. Their replacements are groomed with a time table in mind. Everything got fucked up this year.

-Dwayne Jarrett. Our best WR, our most explosive remaining threat and first team All American, has been MIA this season. Between missing games completely and/or partially due to injuries, Jarrett's often been a non factor this season.

-Defensively, we're not forcing turnovers. USC has led the nation for the past four years in turnover differential and that's been a large reason why they've been so explosive. They've lost that knack this season and this fact is allowing all sorts of inferior teams to hang around in games that used to be blow outs.

Booty's been fine. He's done more than well enough.

Now, ask yourself this: Would we be having this discussion about USC's problems right now if Reggie, Lendale and the two OL were playing for USC this year? Would USC have struggled to put away teams the way they have? Would they have lost to Oregon St?

Of course not, on all counts.

You guys could say the same thing about VY and your team this year. I'm not sure you would've beaten OSU but that game sure would've looked a whole lot diferent. Still though, that was your only early defection. Even though it was VY, still it was just the one guy, not five...

Not having Norm Chow was Pete's doing. Ego problems got in the way and Chow was gone. Is it a coincidence that he ended up on a team coached by an SC alum?

No replacement for Bush....didn't you have like 4 HS all americans come in at RB...Moody, Gable, Johnson, Washington returning...wasn't Washington touted as a mix between Bush and White. Nice try.

So 40% of your O-line is gone. You have 60% back and that's pretty darn good. When you recruit HS all americans you can just plug them in....well according to most $C fans you can. The O-line was supposed to be a strength this year.

Maybe Jarrett is a little overrated.

The fact is that the loss of Chow is really being felt this year. Last year you had guys like Whinehart who was a coach on the field and the ability of Bush to change the game at any one moment. This year you obviously don't have that and the fact that Sarkiffian can't do what Chow did as far as adjustments go are really showing. They don't take advantage of the situation like Chow did. Talent wise didin't you have the top recruiting class like 4 years in a row? Wasn't the defense supposed to be the anchor of this team? $C has some issues and PC needs to address them. Doing Monte Kiffin a favor by giving his son that job may backfire on him. Now with 3 out of the next 4 games being tough who knows whay may happen?

Next year ND loses a ton of talent but you won't see any of the Domers in here making excuses like you're doing.

Oh, so blame the crowd. Like you're the only team that's ever had to play on the road vs. a hostile opponent. For the record I'm not sure Beiver/Reiser Stadium ranks up there as one of the toughest to play. Hell CSUN probably had a more hostile crowd.

This was the first time that these kids were called upon to make the plays in this type of situation and were unable to do that

I do have to applaud these kids though for getting back up and fighting this one til the end instead of rolling over like all the teams USC had been playing in big games the last several years. They played with a Trojan spirit and fought on. As a Trojan supporter, alumn and fan... thats all I can ask from the kids
It's nice that you're applauding them. I'm sure you were cursing them until the 4th quarter. It's nice that teams roll over for SC because in other posts $C fan has aid that EVERY team brings their "A" game when they play the Trojans. So which one is it? Teams roll over or they bring their A game?

Nobody feels sorry that you lost people to the NFL because all we heard from your little bitch mouth was, it wo't affect the Trojan Nation because we just reload with more HS all americans who just love to compete and will continue on with the trojan tradition.

Once the Trojans stopped turning the all over, they played much better, but couldnt overcome the 4 turnovers and shoddy kick coverage play. They did continue to play hard, unlike the ND teams that just rolled over and took 31 point beatings by the Trojans year after year after year, or the bRuins who have just given up in the game 5 of the last 6 years, or the Sooners and Hawkeyes in the Orange Bowls, the Trojans continued to fight ans were a swatted down 2 point conversion from tying it up.

This wasn't a Trojan team that any Trojan fans expected a national title from. Especially on this board where the 4 Trojan fans have all said that this was a rebuilding year.

Whats curious is your hatred for USC, what was it that made you dislike the school so much? Seems like some kind of petty jealousy.

Deuce Latui was a Senior last year, the Junior OG that left early was Fred Matua

60% of USC's O line from last year is gone, Juniors Justice and Matua and Senior Latui.

BTW, I'd just like to add that the 2 point conversion that was batted down had no chance in hell of being completed. With the defensive alignment I saw, I thought a slant would have had a better chance of being completed.

Anyway, enough said about this game. For whatever reason, SC did not come ready to play and Oregon State did. They took advantage of the turnovers and made plays when they had to. SC had no answer for Stroughter.

but off of last years tOSU team they lost:

Holmes - top WR
Whitner - Free Safety and the #8 overall pick by the Bills
Youbouty - Shutdown corner

they were Juniors and I would argue had Whitner and Youbouty come back this year tOSU would have been the unanimous pre-season number one...not that they aren't now...

van i see what you are saying but many teams have lost a lot of underclassmen over the years...they re-load...heck tOSU lost Robert Smith, Korey Stringer and Dan Wilkinson off the same team I believe in the mid 90's...plus in 96 tOSU lost Pace, Springs and one other...not saying they are the same caliber as Bush, etc...but every team loses guys...

SC had a great run and I agree they will start another one up again...

I maybe speaking out of turn but i hope SC pounds the ever loving shit out of KAL and I think most on this board would back me on that...

Cal. Everybody here seems to hate the fuck out of Cal. Now, is this entirely because of m2 or does any of this loathing for Cal come honestly?

Having been a Pac 10 fan my whole life, well, Cal was always just that nondescript throw pillow in that one really nice room in your house you never use except for entertaining during the holidays. They were merely the other Bay Area team, the guys who weren't Stanford.

Never paid 'em no never mind, whatsoever. The only time they ever caught anybody's attention was during the Russell White era, which happened to coincide with USC's collision with The Black Plague. Now, I only think of four things when I think of Cal:

-Tedford's stupid shades
-m2
-urine unis
-a perennial Pac 10 disappointment, the team that always seem loaded with talent who somehow still chokes everytime they're presented with a situation whereby they can elevate both themselves and their conference

But, yeah, maybe it's all just m2. Weird, that, since I've always been one of the only people on these boards who enjoys m2's unique shtick. Dude actually chose to become a pariah though with his Cal spamming. Weird choice there but it seems easy to see that he's more than happy with his chosen role here so, hey, more power to him I guess...

if it wasnt for early departures USC would have had Darnell Bing, Manny Wright, Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Winston Justice and Fred Matua on this years squad.
They would have also had Mike Williams and Lofa Tatupu on last years squad.

That's not a woe is me fact, just a fact. When teams lose that many underclassmen year after year, they will not be able to maintain the same level of play.

The loss of both Norm Chow and Ed Orgeron has hurt as much if not more than those players leaving early

I hate Kal because of all the BS they made about not going to the BCS game a couple of years ago. Then they turn around and get rolled by Taco Tech.

I understand their feelings about getting passed over but they took their bitterness to new levels.

I really want them to make it to a BCS game this year so Texas can have a shot at playing them. Nothing would make me feel better than rolling thier asses, and mark my words Texas would roll them.

Van I actually liked Cal during the Russell White era because I coached Russell. I now like them because of Nate Longshore. I did an interview with him last year during one of our HS broadcasts and he's a solid stand up guy. I'm now coveringh is brother Ben in HS. I've also covered Shane Vereen the last 3 years who committed to Cal and he's a solid class guy so outside of my hate for Cal which comes from M2 I actually like teams that have kids I've covered and root for them to do well. Now if any of them ever went to $C I'd have to make an exception and hate them. :D
