Having said that, Davis is not running the sort of campaign he should be running. Even though the 26th is a strong Republican district, the Republicans are vulnerable in two areas here -- Bush's approval rating, and Social Security privatization.

Davis should be tying Reynolds' voting record in with Bush's (without looking it up, I'd be willing to bet he's voted with Bush at least 90% of the time) and Social Security privatization (which I believe Reynolds supported), along with the Foley scandal. Instead, he rants about NAFTA and CAFTA, and offers to work without pay as a Congressman (a nice gesture, but a single Congressman's salary is a drop in the bucket compared to total federal spending).

I believe this is virtually a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to flip a strong Republican district without a major demographics change, and I'm afraid Davis is pissing it away.

I've never had much faith in Davis, and I'm certain he is pissing away his chance. If Eric Massa were running against Reynolds, he would be mopping the floor with him.

I've never had much faith in Davis, and I'm certain he is pissing away his chance. If Eric Massa were running against Reynolds, he would be mopping the floor with him.

Oh, I still think Davis will win -- this year. I was talking more about the long-term prospects for the district.

Davis will win, but in the long term he won't be more than a blip on the screen. He'll serve one, maybe two, terms, and then there'll be a Republican back in there. But that's a shame, because it doesn't have to be that way.
