So what you're saying is that you finally got Crown to share some of the blanket?I guess enough bitching and moaning can sway simple minded people.
The House is now held by the Democrats

Raising the minimum wage is a horrible idea. That will just drive the cost of living up even higher. If someone who is making minimum wage isnt happy w/ their life, then they should work harder or get a better education. Someone on minimum wage shouldnt be able to buy a house. If they have 2-3 kids and have trouble living then dont have 2-3 fucking kids until you can afford it.
Why should there be Federal funding for stem cell research??? There is plenty of privatized funding. There are a lot of Americans who dont agree w/ it, so why should we be forced to pay for it w/ our tax dollars???
Enact all 9-11 commission recomendations. You have to be kidding me?
I dont mind the idea of cutting interest rates on student loans, but where are we going to generate the money that is lost?

Many states already have minimum wage laws that are higher than the current Federal miminum wage of $5.15/hour (the entire west coast, FL, most of New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, IL, WI, MN) and they don't seem to be hurting too much.
Costco pays its workers $10/hour to start and they make $40,000 per year after 4 years, much higher than WalMart or Sam's Club. Most of their workers have health insurance and the company pays for most of the premium. Costco has much a lower employee turnover rate and less empolyee theft.
Please explain why raising the minimum wage would not be a good thing, other than the fact that minimum wage earners would then be on a par with you.

Funny how the old supply side maxim about rising tides and boats doesn't enter into your calculus when speaking of minimum wage workers.Cicero wrote:Raising the minimum wage is a horrible idea. I don't agree with Bush's folly in Iraq, yet my tax dollars are paying for it. Will of the majority buddy. Deal with it.Why should there be Federal funding for stem cell research??? For starters, the Bush tax cuts for the rich won't be extended.I dont mind the idea of cutting interest rates on student loans, but where are we going to generate the money that is lost?
Hey, I'm not expecting you to LIKE what Pelosi has in mind. But don't tell me the Dems don't have a platform.

B/c it raises the cost of living for everyone else. Every company will be forced to raise prices on clothing, food, gas and services to help profit loss. The rich wont be hurt by it cause they can afford. The middle-class will feel the brunt of it. Dont tell me that the Democrats are the champions for the Middle Class.
So, to be a "champion of the middle class" you have to keep the "lower class" at a sub living wage?
Thinking like this is why you assholes took it between the butt cheeks yesterday.
Take the Costco example one step further. They pay a better wage than Sam's and yet don't charge higher prices. Pretty much disproves your contention.

Sam's Club has 71 percent more U.S. stores than Costco, yet Costco's total sales are 5 percent higher. The average Costco store generates almost double the revenue of a Sam's Club. By any hard-nosed business measure, Costco is succeeding brilliantly against what may be the most formidable competitor in any industry on Earth.
Furthermore, Costco's success translates directly into benefits for workers and customers in the very manner that cheerleaders for corporate America have long described. The company offers "the best wages and benefits in retail." Its starting hourly wage is $10. Full-time hourly workers earn annual salaries of $40,000 after four years.
And get this: Whenever Costco buyers negotiate a good deal on products, the savings are actually passed on to customers. No, seriously; markups are capped at 14 percent.

Funny how you and your party couldnt in '04. Dont sit there and tell me to deal w/ it when you have been bitching since Bush won his 2nd term. The majority spoke then.

Then the GOP can run on that record in 08. Have fun with that. ;)mvscal wrote:And you're counting on Dubya to actually sign any of this?BSmack wrote:Here's a few ideas the Dems will be looking to implement.
Enact all 9-11 commission recomendations.
Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour
Cut the interest rate on student loans in half.
Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.
Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds
No increasing the deficit.
Oh, and she has some pipe dream about reducing the influence of lobbyists. We'll see about that one.
Put the pipe down and welcome to gridlock.

Getting the GOP on record on these issue IS a lot. As for defecit spending, there's this little thing called the Article I Section 7 in the Constitution that gives the House Dems a whole lot of say about how money gets spent.Neely8 wrote:Boy you Dumbocrats sure are going to get alot done.....BSmack wrote:That's because you haven't been listening.

Stopping defecit spending does not require a veto proof majority. It requires the political will to not allow said spending to pass the house in the first place. That is something the GOP seemed to forget once they had absolute power.Neely8 wrote:No 2/3rds majority though.......BSmack wrote:Getting the GOP on record on these issue IS a lot. I say under 3 months before the complaints start. "We can't get anything done!" "We need a Dumbocrat president to enact everything"
Meanwhile America will wonder where all this change they were promised is. You guys better learn and not send some scrub into that Prez election. Your choices of candidates is what lost the last two times.
Who will be the Dumbocrat candidate for Prez?

Of course they do. Don't be stupid.Neely8 wrote:I say under 3 months before the complaints start. "We can't get anything done!" "We need a Dumbocrat president to enact everything"
The issue was far more fundemental than that. Dig deep and see why Gore and Kerry were chosen and you'll see that the Democratic Party had become regionalized. This campaign was the first nationwide campaign run under Howard Dean's "50 State Strategy". He said 3 years ago that Dems needed to reach out to "guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks." That has happened and the results are Rep Heath Shuler and Sens Webb and McCaskill.Meanwhile America will wonder where all this change they were promised is. Way too early to tell. But whomever is nominated will have a far better field organization nationwide than Gore or Kerry ever had. And that is a direct result of Howard Dean reaching out to party committees in what were once hopelessly red states when all the "smart money" was backing a regional strategy.Who will be the Dumbocrat candidate for Prez?
