..... Syracuse is showing a balance they haven't had in years. As clutch as G-Mac was for years, too often the others were just standing around last year waiting for him to do something. Now guys know they have to step up, and in the games so far (albeit against one awful team and 2 decent at best teams), they have.

It's early, but so far I like what I'm seeing.

Hi, noob. Once the season gets in full swing, it'll pick up a lil' bit around here... especially with our regular Tejas posters, now that they're somewhat good. :D Glad you're here. Just don't suck and you'll do fine. Invite others.

Now there's something to be proud of.

Actually, I see where your team is getting some respect from the polls at #18 in the AP, i believe.

Who'd you guys beat?

I'm telling you, Froz, if we can get a consistant 18-20 from Neal, with the occasional 30 point game, double digit boards and 3 assists per out of Double L, and limit our turnovers from our frontcourt, then we're going to be a good team. Double L was really all over the place last night. Granted, it was freakin' Liberty, but he was posting up, getting his man on his back (gross) and then passing over the top of him to a cutter for an uncontested layup. Double L was making that play. If Capel can coach HIM like THAT, then we're gonna be okay.

But, we're not a team of midgets. We're just small in what is supposed to be the frontcourt, but our guards are big. Crocker is 6/5. Godbold's about 6/5. Then, our frontcourt is also a good size. Nate is 6/6 and a good rebounder... also very strong. Clark is 6/8, 245. He looks like he ought to be catching passes from Thompson, not from AJ. Then, throw in our only height, LL at 6/10, 6/11, and we're... well...

I saw it when we went into our 2/3 Zone last night. We have a team full of those players that everybody wants right now. The long, athletic guys that can play, and, more importantly, defend, several positions. Sure, we don't have anybody that can guard a pure C, but 1) how many pure C's are out there anymore, and 2) who does?

Tejas may have some height, but so do we, and our guys might not be as tall, but they're a lot bigger, which, in a conference like the Big 12, usually bodes well. I'd take a strong guy who doesn't mind mixing it up (like Nate and Clark) over someone who may be a few inches taller and / or more athletic, but not strong enough to get position.

I think that if we can just get Clark posting up, he's either going to be bigger, or more athletic than almost anybody guarding him. That also gets him close to the basket on both ends, posting on O, and guarding a 4. Which ALSO helps with his rebounding.

But yeah, LL is looking good right now. I just saw a good six or seven plays from him, on offense, that I've never seen out of him before. If he can fill that role, on THIS team, we've got a shot to be pretty darn good. Like I said, if he's getting 10 boards a game and at LEAST getting 2/3 dimes, or at least NOT 2/3 turnovers, then we're gonna be pretty good. I honestly and for true think that we'll win 19. If we can do everything that we're capable of and we can get ANY kind of decent point play (5 assists per with only 2 or 3 turnovers per.) I really do like our chances of making the Dance... or at least being a bubble team.

But talk to me again after we play Memphis.

the_ouskull

Edit: I can't believe I got through that whole post without mentioning Taylor Griffin. He's another big, strong and "tall enough" guys, who we also need strong rebounding from. I could live with LL getting 8 or so a game if Taylor's getting the same. Wow. Must be all the drugs I did in the 60's.
Congrats, Wags. Good win.

i think 14-16 per is more realistic for Neal. i do like the way that most of the returning guys are playing.....loose and having a good time. FT's seem iffy to me--though Longar looks like a champ compared to the 48% rocks he was tossing up last year.

to be honest, Griffin is the one who has been disappointing to me (so far). his shot trajectory is flat as a sidewalk.

You must be talking about that team the Ducks are going to pound into the hardwood next week(dang, Oregon gets quite a break for the holiday...over a week).

You're going to be pretty pissed off when your team gets rolled by a midget.

Nah...just poking a little fun. I thought the Hoyas would be a much better team this year, but their reputation from last year is obviously why they were a top 10 team to start the season.

Oh well, hopefully they'll come together as the season continues and makes a late season push in the Big East and NCAA tournies

Don't feel bad -- Oregon is actually sporting a couple of McDonald's All-Americans, and some big-ticket recruits(kinda helps when you give their dads jobs). And Ernie Kent is really stressing the defense this year. So far, they've actually been a very good defensive team, and pretty much everyone on the squad can shoot, which makes for a simpler offense, and allows that focus on defense. could be a good year for U of O...bout freaking time, as hard as they've been recruiting.

Georgetown was their first real test...which they passed with flying colors.
