My tOSU vs UM Trip Report

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

What a weekend...it all started

Friday at 5:45 am pulled out of Charlotte, NC 77 north to 64 west to 35 to 23 North into C-Bus (cuts down on time going all the way up to 70 West)...

around 11:00 am or so we are about an 1.5 hours outside of Columbus and you could already feel the electricity (embellishing a little but you get the point)

Tune into Cowherd broadcasting live from Eddie George's Grill 27 and here slut Tara Reid on there her brother went to tOSU or something who cares just show some camel toe or something and hope someone gets a shot and can put it on the net...

around 11:45ish here the news about Bo...a moment of silence while driving...Woody and Bo watching this game together upstairs...thoughts and prayers to the Michigan family...

arrive in Columbus and promptly hit Buckeye Corner to load up on gear and what not...then hit the Team Store, drive around Woody Hayes Athletic Complex and head to hotel...

Head down to Eddie George's Grill 27...sweet place...get two seats at the bar after a short wait...BONUS...watch tOSU B-Ball game...eat drink and watch tons of drunk chicks walk by dressed like it was summer...nice...

Saw a bunch of Michigan fans there and they were drinking with tOSU fan and having a good time...rolled back to the hotel...

UP early Saturday...on campus by 8:00am and the place was already NUTS...hit the GameDay set got a picture with Fowler (sweet), and hung with the 3 dudes who were in The Animal Gear with Lauerenitis' #33 trying to get them on the set...then got the call around 10:30 "Meet us to go get the tickets" (Friend on the other end of the line)...

Walk to South Part of campus by the hospital area...get tickets and then proceed to head back over to the Game Day set...check that out and various tailgates and Heiney Gate for a little...place was MOBBED...

Getting hungry...friend says I got a place to eat cheap...Hitchcock Hall a small donation and all you can eat burgers, dogs, and chicken, awesome for cheap eats...(keep that in mind guys)

Walk over to St. John's for skull session at 12:45...every seat already taken...so we go wait by the door that the players go out...sure enough right after Tressel spoke the chains come out and the whole team walks right by us...walking with them were Chris Carter, Mike Doss, etc...got to talk to Thad Matta a little bit...BONUS...

Went into the stadium about 2:30pm...never BEFORE have I seen the SHOE that full over an hour before game time...when the band came out from the ramp entrance...THE PLACE WENT NUTS...never heard it this loud before...

awesome first half...and at half time (Lance or Shawn whoever hates the band skip this part) but the OSU band put on a FUCKING show...WOW...

second half...slow at first for the buckeyes...but what a game...

afterward waiting on friends and there was some good natured smack from Buckeye Fan to Wolverine fan but all the wolverine fans I walked next to or whatever were very nice the whole weekend and even after the game...i saw one incident where some drunk tOSU dude grabbed some Michigan guys hat off his head and took off running...wish I would have been ahead of him I would have stuck him and took that hat back...hate that shit...

anyway saw an awesome game and when I got home I watched the first half of the game that I DVR'ed...and boy

the 2nd and 1 play fake for the TD was INCREDIBLE...Smith to Ginn
if Henne hits Manningham on that long pass that would have been a back breaker...
Chris Wells' TD run was nothing short of amazing when you consider the spin move off of Crable

the one thing is the helmet to helmet...that was a legit call in my book - but I am interested to get some differing thoughts on that...I mean in the NFL is that not a fine and possible suspension???

Anyway great game by two great teams...God I am still pumped!

The hit looked identical to a hit in the PSU/UM game last month. Both hit appeared to be helmet-to-helmet, and not inadvertently so.

That hit was called for OSU, but not for PSU. Apparently in the NFL, that hit would have to be called, but in college it's less clear-cut.

The hit was definately a personal foul. No doubt about it. Not Crable's best game between the missed tackle on the long td, and the drive sustaining late hit. I would love to have seen the outcome had osu had to punt giving UM the ball down 4. But no complaints from me, UM had plenty of chances.

PSU- The hits were very different I believe. Wasn't the hit on your qb in the pocket? The hit on Smith was after a long chase, after the throw, and as he was near/at the sideline...it gets called a very high percentage of the time. I think the refs view it as a frustration hit. If Crable keeps his head up...maybe no call, who knows. The hit on Morrelli (whatever his name is) was clean imo.

Been there with Mrs. B42. Not bad. Parking sucks. Hope the place succeeds.

What. No breakfast? C'mon, e-lite buffet at the Hyatt downtown. Start there and walk north: consume brew at any of the short north pubs to campus.

Hospital area. Lost? Heiney Gate? Shit, I just found out my daughter (a senior at tOSU) attended Heiney Gate.

^^^^^^^^

Don't follow...I just equate the hospital area with south campus...back in my days it wasn't as expansive and what not...no we hoofed a good 4-5 miles between our parking, to the Game Day set to the Hospital area and back to game day set/hiney gate...

yes we ate breakfast don't worry...

I was just trying to give a quick lowdown on the trip...

yeah Eddie Georges was cool...you are right parking does suck...

Sorry fellas, a little late on the celebration post here. I woulda been in here sooner, but had a death in the family (grandfather) over T'giving weekend so had to stick around for an extra week.

Wow, what a freakin' day 11/18/06 was. Me and the old crew strolled into the Varsity Club around 9 am, which actually is a disappointing starting time if you ask me. Stomped around the Gameday area, although couldn't really see much. Was happy when I heard Corso pick TSUN. I was nervous up until that point. I hadn't been to C-bus since last year's Texas game but damn I've never seen it more electric. It felt bigger than the Super Bowl all day. Hit up a house party on North Campus, and randomly ran into a couple Buckeye fans from Phoenix. Watched the game at a buddy's house (couldn't snag any duckets for this one as I blew my allowance in Austin this year) and from there it's all a blur. I know we went to the new Gateway shortly afterward. Danced with a couple co-eds with really nice tits at some new bar that situates where the old Spot Bar used to be, but honestly don't remember where I was or what her face looked like. Don't wanna know. Cops patrolled up and down High Street all night. I heard there were only about 30 arrests and all for minor shit. I guess that new campus Gateway is a nice substitute for burning couches and tossing microwaves into the street. Though that mysterio campus aura is now gone forever. It's kinda bullshit.

I was gonna save this pic for a possible rematch thread, but nonetheless, I think I found my own personal Yoda at the VC. Props to PSU for croppin this beyotch. Sidenote: Dude on the far right musta got his face kicked in the night before. I'm thinkin maybe that's how _sc scored his ticket (?). Anyways, freakin' awesome trip and hope to see some of you fools out here for the big one. --Lance

I know how that went, _sc. I attempted to meet up with some other friends before the game and it never happened. Some of us were here, some of us were over there. And fucking people everywhere made it nearly impossible. Gigantic clusterfuck, but what an atmosphere. We'll have to hit it up some other time, maybe when Kent State or BG are in town instead.

Those pics sure show the class of some OSU fans.
