Diddy wants to become first black Bond

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - He changed his stage name from Puff Daddy to P. Diddy and now Diddy, but what he would really like to be called is Bond ... James Bond.

"One day the time will come for a black Bond and hopefully I can audition for it," U.S. rapper and entrepreneur Sean "Diddy" Combs said on the sidelines of the MTV Europe Music Awards late on Thursday.

"It's a dream of mine to play a great role like that."

The current holder of that position is actor Daniel Craig, who plays the secret agent in the eagerly-awaited "Casino Royale," which comes out later this month. Craig also attended the Copenhagen show to present an award.

"I love the Bond they have now," said Diddy. "He's a great actor and I think they made a great choice."

Diddy's acting resume consists mainly of a role as a death-row inmate in the racially charged drama "Monster's Ball" in 2002.

As Bond, Diddy, who performed at the MTV awards, said he would apply his mantra of always making sure his audience is entertained.

"That's what we get paid to do," he said, sporting a sharp gray suit and oversized sunglasses. "If I'm going to step on the stage, I'm going to entertain you. Hopefully the people felt entertained tonight."

I am in no way saying that Diddy would be a suitable Bond. For starters, he can't act. But a qualified black actor could most certainly pull off 007 without a hitch.

BTW: Bond movies have been filmed in the West Indies, New Orleans, Africa, South America. Just to name a few places where black folk might just blend in a bit better than a white Englishman. Simply put, the character of James Bond is that of a British Secret Agent. Nowhere in that description does it say he has to be white.

That was a very nice summation of absolutely irrelevant information. Was Moonraker based on Fleming's experiences as well? Get a fucking clue Dins. The Bond movies use Fleming's character as a VERY rough outline and nothing more. And that outline is that he's a British Secret Agent who likes to bang hot chicks and kick ass whilst barely breaking a sweat. The requirements for a Bond are the ability to speak with a passable English/Scottish accent, appear capable of scoring hot chicks and to appear physically fit enough to, at the very least kick Roger Moore's ass in "A View to a Kill".

The story was so different from what fleming had written that the movie itself was turned into a novel later on.

Show me ONE line from Ian Flemming that references James Bond's race.

They assumed an awful lot 50 years ago.

But I'd say this artists rendition as described by Fleming clarifies Bonds race fairly well:

Precisely my point. Confusing the movie Bond with the Bond character as imagined by Ian Fleming is foolish at best.

BTW: The fictional American agent Felix Leiter has been played by both white and black men. And my guess is that you didn't even notice.
