Just curious as to the views here, as it relates to the discussion between pop and myself, in regard to current events.

I've heard a lot of talk over the last several months, via Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reily and others.

The Colbert Report makes fun of this, almost nightly, via his commentary whenever something good is reported in Iraq, and how disappointed he is that "This just means another setback for Jesus coming."

I agree with pop that if there's another terrorist attack, worse than 9/11/2001, it could be, depending on many factors.

But for now, I just don't buy it.

Hal Lindsay had a throng of tards (including myself for a while in the days of yore) convinced that the Soviet Union was the "kingdom of the East" that was going to try to take over Israel, and that it was going to happen "any day now."

Of course, American history is rife with this end-of-times bullshit, almost since its inception.

Along with some great men (and women), we have a whole lot of false prophets in our historical portfolio. "Land of plenty," indeed.

That would be a complete distortion and/or misrepresentation of my beliefs.

The Bible is not a frigging "Magic 8 Ball" to help you make every miniscule decision or predict petty life events, nor is it some kind of Nostradamus/Mother Shipton secret code for predicting when world events (or even WHAT world events) will occur. The folks who comb books of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to try and find some code that will tip them off to what's going on globally are deluded and/or stupid.

Faith. I believe the accounts given about His life, His death, and His Resurrection, His divinity and the spiritual promises that were made by Him.

That has absolutely ZERO to do with a bunch of cotton-brained Bible-thumpers completely misusing Scripture (for the umpteenth time) to try to use it to issue some sort of apocalyptic "countdown" or using 20-20 hindsight to twist Scripture to claim that it "predicted" specific world events when it has done no such thing. The Bible never predicted the discovery of the New World, the founding and dominance of the United States, either of two world wars, nuclear power, the Cold War, etc. Anyone who seriously tries to argue otherwise is a complete and utter fool. Period.

The absence of a clear United States in 'end times Bible prophecy' might mean that the United States is either snuffed out, or inconsequential.
Not what we like to imagine, but a possibility.

At any rate, what I said to RF earlier is what I believe.
The focus on prophecy is improper feeding of believers in Christ.

Eschatology is very pointless and can sometimes border on dangerous. I don't think it's anything to give mind to. As Christians, we're not called to sit and wait for Christ to return. We know He's returning and are to let God worry about that one. But, that said, the Bible is there so we can recognize the age withing which the end times can come. Two centuries ago, there was not way for the world to kill itself at a moment's notice. Now, there is. Of course, while I can recognize that the world's become exponentially more disgusting in the last 100 years, I refuse to live for its end. Christ expects a little more from me. Just a thought.

Exactly. It does say nothing about the year. The prophecies are to give us a ballpark idea as to when it'll all happen. To know, if you will, that it's getting close. I'm not going to worry about it all, personally.

So I'm listening to my local whack job radio host this morning at 6 something a.m. ... dude's going on and on about the "coming of Jesus" (yes, this is what passes for local "news" radio talk in Tulsa, very sad to say), then, in a half-awake state, I finally realize he's talking about how it relates to the fucking Baker-Hamilton report, on Iraq!

Are you fucking kidding me?

So I start listening and this guy is either just trying so bad, doing some sort of ultimate radio troll job (because the competing "talk/news" station kicks his ass in ratings, month after month, year after year), or he really was serious.

I'd lean toward the latter, after listening to his ramblings.

And oh, how psychotic they were, indeed.

Dude's convinced his two infants won't "make it past grade school" before "Jesus comes." All because of the committee on Iraq's report. Dude was dead serious. Hello?

All I could do was crack up.

Btw, the only reason I listen to this nutjob if I happen to wake up unGodly early is because it's like an audio train wreck -- dude's playing Rock 'n Roll bumper music and flirting with his female co-host one second, and talking about the end of the world and his kids the next -- fascinating, yet extremely disturbing, considering dude has at least a few thousand people who take him seriously.

Anyway, now that I know the "truth," as he puts it in promos as to why people should listen to his show, I figure Jesus should be here in about 5 years, maybe 6.

You can't live for the return. Just know that it is coming (eventually) and that the signs will speed up as it gets nearer. That said, again, I emphasize YOU CAN'T LIVE FOR THE RETURN!!! Live for Christ and let Him worry about when He's coming back. Do I know it'll be 2012? No. Will I be bummed out if it's not in 2012? No. It'll be when it is, whether in my lifetime or not. I just know that when it occurs, I'll be ready. What about you?

This chick I work with actually used to date the local radio guy talking about Jesus coming before his kids finish grade school. Dude's put on considerable amount of weight since then. I'm generally not one to judge, but this chick I work with isn't exactly skinny. She's a tad on the normal side, with a few extra lbs, but she's got everything in the right place and she's probably the sexiest just slightly overweight woman I've ever seen, to the point that even married dudes stop and check her out. She wears tight clothes and thigh-high boots, but I digress.

Here's the guy, Michael DelGiorno, sucking his gut in, after she went out with him.

Of course, he's married now, and has two kids, but dude still cheats. Btw, his mug is at the top of that Web page. It matches what my coworker says about him, not his "picture" at the bottom of the page. Ya'll can listen to his ramblings, 24/7.

Certainly. The thing is that much damage is caused to the Christian movement when we actively look for Christ's return. He warns us against this, actually. Matthew 24:23-26 is a good place to start.
