When you look like Randy Owen's dad, you're old. ;)Sudden Sam wrote:Do these type threads mean I'm old?

Just curious. How long did you hang around watching the paint dry?

:)
That smitherman building is cool looking. Are there a Lot of other antebellum structures left in Selma? I know selma got stomped pretty good by the north towards the end of the war.
One of Dinsdales great great relatives probably drank with a union general in between battles, unloading his extensive knowledge of D&R brews on the poor besotted commander, so whatever info you don't have he'll be sure to spew forth for me I'm sure. :)

Yeah, if my ancestors were from the south, like I'd really tell anybody.
Stood there for 15 minutes, and you didn't have the heart to tell Boissie that you're supposed to prime bare wood before you paint it? Shame on you. Oh well, another homeowner gets taken to the cleaners.
Cool pics as always, Sam.

Uhm...no, it wasn't. The woodgrain showing behind his feet there should have told you. Matter of fact, the wood is even greyed-out. Boissie was giving himself a little future business, since that coating is going to fail very quickly(assuming it wasn't a solid-color stain, which it doesn't appear to be, although it's difficult to tell from a pic).
Now don't get me wrong -- I couldn't care any less if some redneck's porch paint peels(which it will...soon), I was just pointing out the obvious.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Sin,
Ex journeyman industrial coatings applicator(Dins has had all kinds of funky jobs over the years)
The spec guy/engineer is ALWAYS the laughingstock of the jobsite. They take a 30 minute class, in which they're filled with COMPLETE bullshit, and they use this "knowledge" to go on to spewc...whatever coating's rep bought them the most expensive lunch.
Obviously, ANY coating is going to fail over time. But the coaating process being used in that pic is going to fail rather quickly. There's all kinds of eurethanes and whatnot that would hold up until the wood fell apart. Solid color stains wouldn't "fail," per se, but would wear with the wood.
But as an excellent general rule, if a person needs advice on selecting an advanced coating, they should ask the architect/engineer/spec guy...and then do the exact opposite, since it's an absolute fact that none of those guys know what the fuck they're talking about, and the only information they EVER use comes from sales reps who have quite a bit to gain out of the deal....even though there's laws against such things(which are broken on a daily basis...dude I used to work for would even report the jackasses for it).
