Look, it's not real, that's why it matters. Have you even pulled up the photos to look at what was done to Pamela Anderson? If she's 'one of the hottest women on the planet'.. why isn't she allowed to be one of the hottest women on the planet in her own body, with her own face? It's not 'smokin hot' if it's not real. Unreal fantasies? Aren't they supposed to be unreal?

No. A fantasy is best when it's something that exists but is unattainable. A porsche is a fantasy car, not because it doesn't exist, but because it lies outside the reach of many people. Why do commercial (as opposed to real) rappers engage in so much fantasy in their videos? Because the things their record companies have rented exist, but the target audience isn't getting anywhere near that in their lifetime except vicariously through the people on television.

That's how 'good' fantasy works, to me at least. Fantasy only proves to truly be fantasy when one gets what one covets, and has to deal with reality.

Pamela Anderson used to be a gorgeous young woman. She was real, her beauty was real, but she was inaccessible to 90% of the population. She was a fantasy.... accessible to someone, but not you or me or anyone on this board (except maybe Jess). Then she got work done, and fucked up all that goodness. Those days were the golden days of truth in advertising compared to the shots above.

What's been done to her now, though... they can't even bother to merely 'dress up' what the disfigurement she's done to her body (her lips, her breasts, stomach fat) was meant to convey. You know, stuff like merely (!) removing the rectangularity of her boob job, or the scars and wrinkles of her collagen implants; they've completely removed all sense of reality from her, and 'touched up' her body into something she doesn't own in real life. It's not her.

What is represented is something ghastly. No woman on earth looks like what those photos portray, except in refugee camps... and I don't see anyone running to refugee camps to find the Next Top Model. So, if they're not scouring refugee camps for models, why turn women who aren't into something they are not? Why create what doesn't exist?

In fairness, I never came to a complete stop at stop signs either, until a cop stopped me 2 left turns from where I lived in the West Valley. I didn't know I wasn't completely stopping. *I* felt the car stop, I did my looking both ways, up the street and back behind, then would go. Would take 2, 3 seconds. And I never knew I was committing a rolling stop. Even though I felt the stop within the car -- and since you've never driven with me, you don't know how hard I can hit the brake even when I attempt 'taps' -- if the car doesn't feel like it's moving, then it's stopped to me.

So now I start slowing down even further behind the sign, and wait 5 seconds or more, aware that just because it feels like it stopped doesn't mean the vehicle has truly stopped moving. It's a dumb thing to be pulled over for.

No one understands right of way. And as a matter of fact, right of way can get you into an accident as surely as not understanding it. Just because you have the 'right of way' doesn't mean situations change. Like the accident my ex and I were in a couple years ago. He had the right of way... a car was attempting to make a left hand turn at rush hour. Two lanes of traffic had stopped so this chick could make her left hand turn. My ex -- having the right of way (and probably not being able to see over the big ass trucks which had stopped to make a gap, but that's no excuse, right?) -- continues on his merry way, and the chick ends up crashing into our right passenger tire.

It's amazing how slowly time goes in an accident that you can see coming.

Right of way will also get you killed, here in Albuquerque, when it comes to Green Lights and Red Lights (and nevermind being a pedestrian, cyclist or biker). Don't trust to right of way. This is the city where a growing number of persons decide they're going to switch lanes within the intersection itself. They want to make a right hand turn and are stuck in the left hand turn lane? no problem! They'll honk at you and wave their fists as they create their own traffic laws to weave around and before drivers. At the intersection.

Turn signals don't work here in New Mexico. That doesn't have anything to do with race. People assume that if they're in the left hand lane that other people have to assume they're going to make a left hand turn. Same with the right hand lane. But the funniest are people who turn on their turn signals only after they've started to merge, or have already made the other lane. What's the point of signalling your intention after getting your intent?

As for the speed limit, again, that has nothing to do with race.... you're not following the speed limit either, so you have less room to talk. Speeding is still speeding, and like the cops in Houston will remind you, even 1 mile above is enough to get you a ticket. I know you think you are within the law -- just as I thought I was at a complete stop -- but you're not. I don't mind, either, as long as people aren't reckless while they're playing 'autobahn'.

I haven't met anyone who goes the speed limit, anyway, except elderly folks in brand spanking new Chrysler New Yorkers, and the wonderful folks who obey the school traffic lights. by the way, freeze -- if you're out there -- you all need to remind your drivers that no package is worth plowing through a school zone at above the regular speed limit, while the lights are flashing above. Or maybe that's just albuquerque, and the comanche corridor.

So long as the property isn't flipped, if its old enough you can completely rehab the place with some low interest loans or even grants. Problem is, most people in the neighborhood can't borrow the money to get materials to work on the property, or they just want to add on to the back for Roneesha's third kid.

The outsiders usually have interest in bringing up the property value. The current residents aren't usually worried with such stuff and the city knows it. Prove them otherwise. If those whose rents are brought up are forced out, that's their economic burden. Other folks who stay can benefit from a better neighborhood with schools that have more money to spend on the kids.
