If the Packers Sneak Into The Playoffs

Post by See You Next Wednesday »

If the Packers make the Playoffs - which I think happens with a Giants loss to the SKnis and a Packers win versus the home free Bears (I think) - they may qualify as the worst playoff team ever. They have been outscored by 84 points, they are in the bottom half of every team statistical category. They will have snuck in beating the Lions twice, the Vikings once, the 49ers, the Dolphins and the Cardinals. Impressive. Meanwhile their losses have been embarrasiing a lot of the time, shutout at home by both the Bears and the Pats, killed by the Jets and Eagles.

And I am a Packer fan.

They've moved the Packer/Bears game to Sunday night. If they've got a chance, we'll know by kickoff I think. Fuck, I can't imagine how geeked I'd be if that game meant something.

I think if the Pack wins, they have the tie breaker over the Falcons and the Panthers. It's all still too confusing for me. I'm pretty sure that the Vikings have to beat the Rams for the Pack to have any chance. Not sure how the Giants play into it. Anyway, after the first 10 games or so if you'd have told me that there would be ANY chance the Pack could still make the playoffs, I'd have wanted to fight you for fucking with me. After the season they've had, it's nice to even be hoping that things could fall just right and I'd get an extra Sunday of football. WAR that.

Rams make the playoffs if all teams playing lose and all teams with a bye lose and the Kentucky Colonels and St. Louis Spirits lose.

I heard this morning that the Giants are the only NFC Wild Card team that could lose and still make the playoffs. I am guessing they must lose for the Packers to have a chance.

If the Giants win there is one scenario where they still don't go and it is if the Packers win AND every team the Packers have beat this year also wins AND every team the Giants has beat this year also loses.

That sounds like a joke but it isn't.

The Packers will be eliminated if they lose tonight, but they can qualify for the playoffs if they tie the Bears. In that case, the four other NFC teams with 7-8 records must lose

its not hard to confuse me, but this one really has me perplexed. sounds like packer writer hit some bad leftover eggnog.

i realize the packers hopes are hanging by a very very very small thread. but this makes no sense.

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=547669

One is if all of the following occurs: Arizona beats San Diego, Detroit beats Dallas, Miami beats Indianapolis, Minnesota beats St. Louis, San Francisco beats Denver, Carolina loses to New Orleans, Houston loses to Cleveland and Tampa Bay loses to Seattle.

Another is if seven of the eight outcomes occur, in which case the two teams would be tied in strength of victory and would go to the next tiebreaker, which is strength of schedule. The Packers have a slim lead in that department.

well if its only seven of eight, why not just say its onlyt seven outcomes the packers need. im going to be drinking heavily.
