Rumor is that if Cower stepes down, Ferentz will be one of, if not the, first people called to replace him.

Leavitt has said he'd leave SFL for Iowa?

As for Ferentz, I'd high tail it if I were him, too. Now's the time. Your team is looking bad. Go out on your own terms.

He had a brief stint at Iowa as an assistant coach. That's his only ties to Iowa. He's from Florida.

No way Leavitt leaves. USF loves him and his job security there is as good as it gets.

11 years ago they didn't even have a program there and now they are playing in a BCS conference and just won their first Bowl game.

You're right, why would Leavitt leave South Florida for a Big-10 school? That's crazy talk. Who wouldn't wanna stay at a Big East school with no tradition or ability to get on the national scene? And who in their right minds would want a minimum of a $1 million per year pay raise? Leavitt is not staying at South Florida beyond next year, I'll bet anyone my left nut on that. No way. Actually, I'm not even certain we go after him, I'm just saying I'd like for him to be considered. Guaranteed......if Iowa goes after and offers Leavitt the job, he's coming here. However, I am not confident we go after him.

That said, I really highly doubt Ferentz is leaving. Cowher is gonna step down, but I think they'll go after a current NFL coach, although I could be wrong.

You guys are right though, the Iowa job is a horrible job. That's why Ferentz keeps turning down good NFL jobs and other major college jobs. He turns them down because he loves being at a shitty program with no potential. He likes being miserable making a measly $4 million per year coaching for a school that spends more money on football than all but 1 or 2 other schools in the country. And the fact that we go 2-10 every year and never get to bowl games makes it that much more fun for him. Oh sure, he could have interviewed for the Nebraska job a few years ago, but he decided to stay at Iowa where he can go 1-11 every year and not ever get any good recruits. Or something like that.

KSU is a BAD job. They have a shitty stadium, and a lousy budget. He could come to Iowa and get paid double, have a much higher budget, and a stadium with 20,000 more seats that sells out every week. Snyder, former Iowa assistant, did a nice job at KSU turning that around but their success was due in large part to playing weak schedules and hitting up the JUCO's, which won't work now with that APR deal (or whatever it's called) the NCAA has started. They'd be on probation every year since they are not USC or Ohio State.

What do you mean "no ability?" If you play in a BCS conference, all it takes is one good season to get on the "national scene."

Just ask Rutgers? We have yet to see how they'll cash in on their year of success. 1 good season doesn't make a great program. In 5 years, we may have completely forgotten about Rutgers.

They cashed in well enough to convince their coach to stay, rather than leave for the Miami job. I'd say that USF has probably at least as good a shot at keeping Leavitt.

So now you're equating simply being a part of the "national scene" with having a "great program?" How very convenient of you. Obviously Rutgers will need to sustain success if they want to continue to be a part of the "national" CF landscape. But I don't see how that little qualifier makes them so different than any other BCS-conference program. Or even just any program at all. FSU is a big name, but they took a dump this year, and were hardly talked about.

Tell me when you have your point figured out, and we can continue.

You certainly seemed confident that Iowa would go after him in the other thread. Nice backtracking now. Iowa wouldn't be a job that would interest him no matter how much scratch you would want to throw his way.

There are plenty of reasons why Leavitt wouldn't leave USF. First off, as mentioned early, he IS NOT about money. He's been offered more money to go to Alabama and K State and declined both times. Iowa can throw $2+ million a season at Leavitt and he isn't going to bite at that. Secondly, this is HIS program. He built it from scratch and he is not going to just pack up and leave after all he has done to get us to this point. We're going to be a contender to win the Big East in 2007 and we're not far off from being one of the big boys in the league. The foundation that was laid back in 1996 when he was hired is now being built upon.

While we don't have the tradition as most of the teams that you guys root for it's bit difficult to have much tradition after 10 years of football with only 6 in Divsion 1 A. We're creating tradition and Leavitt sees that. he knows the potential of what he has here. The guy is from this area, his family is here, and the program is his baby. I worried that K State would be the job he would want if it opened and he didn't go.

Iowa City is a great college town, but once you're out of college it's not that great of a place. It's nothing BUT a college town. The suburb of Coralville has really developed, but nothing too exciting there. If you're out of college, the only reason to go there is for a ballgame. In fact, I don't know if I've been there more than once or twice since graduation for anything other than an Iowa game.

Sure, he could go to Bama and coach in an impossible situation. He'd coach for a fan base that seems to think they should still be competing for national titles every year when they really haven't been a player on the national scene for quite some time and now their competition for recruits is far greater than when Bear Bryant was there. Not only that, but that fan base is one of the worst in the nation. Large? Yes. But also very ignorant and obnoxious. No one wants that. The first sign of adversity, they'll turn on you. You'll never succeeed there in their minds. Or he could come to Iowa and if he has some success, our fans will walk around with shirts like "In (Coach) We Trust." We'll get on message boards and praise you. You'll be a statewide hero. You'll have one of the most loyal fan bases behind you. Go to Alabama, and unless you go to a BCS Bowl every year (which you won't), they'll prepare a public linching for you. You'll never be loved. If you don't cheat, you won't win (as evidenced by their lack of success without cheating in the past 20+ years). And the first time you lose a game, they'll start talking about who your replacement should be.

Other than that, yeah, Bama's a great job!

Leavitt wouldn't give Iowa the time of day. Both Bama and K-State have courted him in the last few years and both were rebuffed. Iowa doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell at landing him.

Oh and BTW Bama should be comnpeting for titles virtually every season or at least 4 out of every six. They are surrounded by one of the deepest talent bases in the country with in roads into Florida, Georgia, and MIssissippi, besides being the big draw in their own state which isn't short on HS talent by any means. They also have top par facilities and a deep pocket book.

Also Mucho... I've mentioned it numerous times beofre but USF is a program with more upside to it than just about ay other in the country. Their Facilities are second to none and I was very impressed by the campus in general when I went down tere. If I were a HS athelete USF would be at or near the top of the list as far as places I would be interested in attending... Iowa would most certainly not be.

USF is a BCS-school with top-notch facilities in a recruiting hotbed. There are way harder places to build a winner at. Plus for Leavitt, like Schiano, the program is his baby, something he built from nothing. He may listen to offers but he has already shown he won't be an easy get.
