flat screen, big screen, plasma, digital?????
Looking to buy big mofo of a TV this week. I have about 3K to spend, and a 60 inch wide by 60 inch high wall space to put it on.
Haven't had to buy a tube for 5 years, and theres a shitload of stuff out there now that used to be 8 grand but is now 2500.
I'd like to get HDTV with surround sound/home theatre set up as well.
What do you shut ins have? any deece brands to pick, ones to avoid?

that's ok. I didn't want a TV with audio subtitles and detectable body odor anyway.

3 grand for the TV or 3 grand for the TV and surround system both?Mister Bushice wrote:Looking to buy big mofo of a TV this week. I have about 3K to spend, and a 60 inch wide by 60 inch high wall space to put it on.

A good surround system *worth* the extra money probably costs you at least 2 grand, and that's only if you know what you're doing.
For the TV, I'd recommend the 60'' JVC D-ILA rear projection. That's about 2 grand, I believe.
I'd buy online from internet retailer, too. Save at least $500. Worked out well for me.

OH yeah, I forgot about the rear projection thing. why is that better than the other kinds? There's like 4 or 5 different types out there now.Justa Heel wrote:3 grand for the TV or 3 grand for the TV and surround system both?Mister Bushice wrote:Looking to buy big mofo of a TV this week. Wait until the Friday after Thanksgiving. There are usually great deals and no one is out shopping that day.Mister Bushice wrote:Looking to buy big mofo of a TV this week. I have about 3K to spend, and a 60 inch wide by 60 inch high wall space to put it on.

So as to not look like nearly the moron you do right now.
But...you might want to inform this "TV tech guy" that they kinda figured out the problem with plasma TV half-life about...oh, I dunno....5 fucking years ago?
Give Wolfman!!!
A chance --
To--
Make an ass!!!
Of himself --

Dins is right. A decent plasma will be rated to last over 20 years, and "burn in" is far less of an issue than it used to be. Plasmas also have far better contrast ratios and color than an LCD, although they're usually not as bright, so the lighting in your room should be a factor in what you decide to get.
Bushice, do some research. Don't just listen to some dorks on a message board say, "I like ________". Figure out what your needs are and find out what type of set will fill them. You wouldn't take someone's advice to buy a Corvette if you needed something to haul the family, would you?

Of course not, but I figured why not ask to see what others are using. I'm not in any rush.Donovan wrote:

and a corvette works just fine to haul the family in if your family looked anything like the fast times chick up above.

Flat Screen 42 inch resides in my living room.
The gas on a plasma eventually runs out and cannot be replaced, and the pixilated TV's leave an image burn.
You're fucked either way.
Until they fix those problems, i'll stick with my Flat Screen HDTV. And for the poor schmucks who dont have HD, I truly pity you.

Probably because they're there to do thing like push extended warranties and learning about the products they sell isn't a priority.
The biggest problem with plasma screens these days is they don't look as good as LCD in a brightly-lit room. My living room doesn't get much sun so my plasma looks amazing, especially when playing an HD-DVD. But if you're happy with your TV, then that's all that matters.

Still going for the 2WD instead of the 4WD, I see...Rack Fu wrote:I have a Sony rear projection and a Sharp Aquos LCD.
The new Sharp Aquos 1080p sets are REAL nice. Thinking about picking up another 37" one that has multiple HDMI outputs as mine only has one.
