Sonic Youth fans- Show me love

So I'm getting into this band 20 years too late, my bad. Besides Goo, what albums would you say I should download and enjoy?

Daydream Nation is the obvious choice. i like Sister too. Washing Machine is probably the most popular. Thousand Leaves is more recent and a pretty solid effort IMO of their later stuff. a recent set of B sides and unreleased stuff just came out called Destroyed Room. i 've only head a few cuts, but my buddy says it's good.

they've put out a lot of expermental stuff and collaborations that's worth checking out. they've been amazingly productive the last 10-15 years.

If you like Goo you'll also like Dirty. Besides that, Daydream Nation is a great place to start. From there I'd get EVOL and Washing Machine. Murray Street is my favourite of their more recent stuff.

It's too bad Oink doesn't allow discographies anymore or I'd tell ya to get the whole damn catalog.

Also go rent 1990:the Year Punk Broke. Its a documentary on SY but includes this one band that went on to have mild success. They called themselves Nirvana.

they still tour. they've played smaller/theatre type venues in Denver each of the last two summers. one was the same place i saw them on the Goo tour.

i like Dirty Boots on Goo.

I know this might be blasphemy, but I haven't really liked them much since the 80's. A lot of their songs just sound like noise to me and get on my nerves. I've tried, I've tried....

You guys own my soul something hardcore. I've downloaded all the albums in this thread and gotta say, I am totally diggin' these tunes. How am I just now getting into this shit?

Incinerate on the ipod right now off of Rather Ripped, and I like. A lot. We need more of this sound.

Any DVDs from these guys you'd advise the PrimeX to watch/download?

Daydream Nation is an absolute must.

Sister, Goo and Dirty are also a tremendous introduction to the band. I'm one of the biggest SY fans on the planet but their first two records are basically unlistenable. There's a few songs on their third and fourth records (Bad Moon Rising and Evol) that gives us a sneak peak of their future brilliance but those records are still kind of hit and miss.

I can't believe that it has been just about 20 years since I first saw them live at the Syracuse University Summer Block Party in 1987 (Fishbone and the Chili Peppers also played).
