PORTLAND - An unusually large cat was delivered to the Oregon Humane Society Wednesday after he was caught sneaking into a doggie door for food.

A homeowner says she heard a noise coming from her garage and when she went to see what was going on, she found a stray cat trying to get to food she had put out for her own pets.

"I heard quite a ruckus when I went into my garage," said Jadwiga Drozdek of Gresham, Ore. "It was hilarious to see this big cat struggling to get in. I helped him out of the door and gave him a plate of food on the patio."

Drozdek says she already has six cats under her care, so she took the cat to OHS where he was nicknamed Goliath.

Goliath weighs over 20 pounds. If he is not claimed within three days, OHS will neuter him and put him up for adoption.

"He will sure warm your lap this winter," said Sharon Harmon, OHS executive director. "People with a king-size bed would be a good fit for this cat."

OHS will add a free bag of low-calorie cat food with the adoption.

Fucking beast. Hell, if I didn't have my fill of geriatric cats, I'd take the sucker, just for the sake of personal protection. Fucker would eat an intruder. What would I feed it...a side of beef?

And soeaking of large beasts --

SEASIDE, Ore. - It's decision day for beloved tree Klootchy Creek Sitka spruce's fate.

The 200-foot-tall tree grows in Klootchy Creek Park off U.S. Highway 26, about 8 miles southeast of Seaside.

A December windstorm, which brought 100 mph gusts to the north Coast, caused a decades-old lightning gash on the trunk to open up farther. It caused concern that the tree, believed to be 750 years old, could topple at any time.

Clatsop County staff plan to meet Wednesday with state forestry experts to come up with a plan for the famous landmark, listed as the state's largest and one of the two biggest Sitka spruces in the world.

Officials are leaning in favor of letting Mother Nature determine the fate of the stricken Sitka spruce tree.

I'm all about Mother Nature taking her course, but they HAVE to do something to save the Spruce Tree. It's a freaking icon. Not so much for being such a massive big tree(it was much taller until lightning stikes cropped it a bit over the last 30 years, or something)...we've got plenty of massive trees round these parts...but that tree holds so much sentimental value for so many people, it has to stay. It's right next to the highway on the way to the bastion of coastal tourist traps known as Seaside. I think Lewis and Clark even stopped and said "damn...that's a big motherfucking tree."

I couldn't even guess the numvber of times that I've pissed or puked on The Tree. Back in the Old Days, it wasn't quite such a stuffy deal, and the "no camping" signs were fairly well ignored. Fuck, before all the silly decking around it and whatnot, I passed out laying against that sucker, more than once(after the Seaside Police ran me out of town...that was their answer to public drunks -- "get in your car and get out of town.")

Save the tree, dammit!

Throw on some metal straps with the proper deck screws and it's good to go.

On the other hand..
It would make some nice cabinets.

Exactly what I was thinking. Except it might take lag bolts...do those come in square-drive?

Spruce makes nice....firewood. Harder than cedar...but not much. Actually, it's about the same as douggy.

Make a whole fucking shitload of cabinets, though. That fucker could remodel every kitchen in the freaking world.

Turned out to be a nice story.

The owner had cystic fibrosis. 6 months ago, he went to Seattle for a lung transplant(if it was transplanted in Seattle, I'm guessing the lung was californian). He had a housesitter while he was gone, and one day someone came to the door after running it over, or some such thing. The stranger took the cat with him, which the housesittier thought was to take it to be euthanized. They didn't have the heart to tell the dude his cat croaked while he was recovering, so apparently they made up some BS story, until they finally told him the truth. Dude was pretty bummed, since he had been confined to his bed, and the cat, Hercules, was his bestest buddy. Imagine his suprise when the cat turns up on TV 6 months later.

There's your "feel-good" story for the day. Now go fuck yourself.
