CANBY, Ore. - A man is dead and another is charged with murder following a fight at a weekend football-watching party.
Police say about ten people had gathered at a Canby home Saturday night to watch an NFL playoff game on TV. Shortly after 5 p.m., Clackamas County deputies were dispatched to a disturbance call to the scene at 24580 South China Street. They say when they arrived, they saw a broken window, lots of beer cans strewn around the front yard, and a man lying on the lawn in the middle of those beer cans.
That man was not breathing. Medics tried to revive him, but the victim, Christopher Lucas of Canby, died at the scene.
Investigators say it started as a fight. At least one of the party-goers assaulted Lucas. His younger brother, 33-year-old Troy Lucas, tried to come to his aid but failed. Troy Lucas suffered facial wounds during the football fracas.
Detectives found no weapons at the scene, but based on the evidence they gathered, they arrested 37-year-old Matthew Stuzman of Beaverton, and charged him with murder. Deputies say Stutzman's criminal history includes arrests for assault, drunk driving and probation violations. He is being held without bail in the Clackamas County Jail and will make his first court appearance this Tuesday afternoon.
I'm sure he'll be acquitted, so long as he gets Ladainian "Richard Dent" Tomlinson to testify as a charater witness, and that he was just trying to teach the Pats fans to "have class."
