It's called "gentrification." It's what happens when property value of a certain area is brought down. They bring the property value down. They can buy the land cheaper. Then they move the people out, raise the value and sell it at a profit.

I never heard that story. Property values in south central did not increase in value the way other areas have over the last decade. Too many drug and gang problems, not enough property improvements and poor upkeep, plus many of them are older buildings.

However I'm sure there were a few of those cases that day.

It's called "gentrification." It's what happens when property value of a certain area is brought down. They bring the property value down. They can buy the land cheaper. Then they move the people out, raise the value and sell it at a profit.

If You saw South Central 6 years after the riots, you would have called that a bad investment strategy. Many of the burned or damaged buildings were still there. The tenants packed up and left, and no one else rented the place. No one wanted to go there.

Poor, economically depressed, gang and drug ridden neighborhoods are not exactly an attractive package to sell to investors. There's just no return and too high a risk.
