Dean Spanos is an idiot, especially with the talent pool available here. He should read this board. Hiring Marty ? I wondeer what kind of message this is sending the offense, defense, and special teams.
With all the horseshit around here, you'd think there'd be a pony somewhere.

Who would you have replace him? And don't say "Anybody" because that is nonsense.

Why the fuck would Pete Carroll leave USC? It is a superior, more prestigious job than any head coaching position in the NFL.

...to inherit a stacked team and about 3 mill more than he's making at SC.

With all the rumors going around I've been wondering the same thing myself. Why would a two time NFL loser leave a position that seems to have been made for him just to try the NFL waters one more time? I'm sure he's pulling down significant $$ where he is and he's basically idolized in LA.

Think of Mike Montgomery who built an incredibly successful and respected hoops program at Stanford. Dude could have had anything he wanted in Palo Alto, but he had to jump to the Warriors in 2004 where he fell flat on his face. Where is he now? I guess he cashed out pretty well in those two years but, hell, as far as I know he's out of the business. Maybe that's what he wanted in the first place.

As it SHOULD be. They literally are a player or two away from OWNING this league, even with Marty.
Sorry, Bitch. Chargers will not win a fucking thing with Marty there.

There are a few good coordinators floating around. And before you laugh, take a look at who the head coach hires last year were.

Buffalo Bills- Dick Jauron
Detroit Lions- Rod Marinelli
Green Bay Packers- Mike McCarthy
Houston Texans- Gary Kubiak
Kansas City Chiefs- Herman Edwards
Minnesota Vikings- Brad Childress
New Orleans Saints-Sean Payton
New York Jets- Eric Mangini
Oakland Raiders- Art Shell
St. Louis Rams- Scott Linehan

Now ask yourself if the teams who hired former head coaches got better value than those who hired coordinators.

He would be fool to leave.
House of cards. Either he has someone paid off or that program will crumble within the next 2 years.

Anyhoo, Paul for once nailed this sucker. Marty can't stop the Chargers much longer. And firing a coach that just went 14-2 would be well beyond absurd.

What's your point? So you want to bring in an asssitant to coach the Chargers? Really? Unless Jimmy Johnson is available (whcih he isn't), there is nobody out there that would be worth canning Marty over.

Hey, it's no skin off my back if Spanos doesn't want to move past the first round of the playoffs.

Right. Just like how Bill Cowher is incapable of winning a Superbowl...or conference championship at home.
Before last season's Super Bowl season, Bill Cowher's post season record was 8-9.
Marty's is 5-13.

Pretty big difference there.

Cowher had also won playoff games in '04, '02, and '01.

Marty hasn't won a playoff game since Clintoon's first yr in office.

Good luck.
