Yeah, if only Brady could impart some of that end-over-end spiral onto his throws like Peyton can. He coulda been a champion.TheJON wrote:If you think my argument for Manning has to do with stats, you're mistaken. No one, and I mean no one, makes the throws he makes.

Jeezus H Christ, Mgo, give me a break. It's called reading comprehension.....look it up.
My statement about Manning now getting over the hump should shut people up does NOT say anything about this being the reason that I think he is now the better QB because of that game. My point was that now that Manning has finally won this should end everyone's argument (although I never agreed with that argument) about Brady being better because their argument was always premised upon Manning not being able to win a big game whereas Brady has. Well, Manning has now proven everyone wrong so now they do not have a reasonable argument to stand on.

No he hasn't. He's reached the Super Bowl, he hasn't won it. Until he wins that game, he will be a shade below the great ones.TheJON wrote:Jeezus H Christ, Mgo, give me a break. It's called reading comprehension.....look it up.

So, you think in the eyes of the detractors, an AFC title should slot him ahead of Brady? One big playoff win should trump Brady's ENTIRE career of huge playoff wins, including 3 SBs?My point was that now that Manning has finally won this should end everyone's argument (although I never agreed with that argument) about Brady being better because their argument was always premised upon Manning not being able to win a big game whereas Brady has. That just doesn't make any sense. You're like arguing with a 6 year old. You don't even know what YOU want to say.

Peyton Manning's career isn't over yet as he has plenty of years left, so I'll leave him out of this, but how on earth could anyone say Dan Marino isn't one of the game's all-time elite QB's? What the heck more could that guy have done???? Dude has pretty much every damn passing record. He had an incredible arm. He did everything he possibly could to win football games.
Tom Brady has been the beneficiary of a great system. Not just talent around him, but a great system. The difference between the Manning's and Marino's of the world and Tom Brady is that Marino and Manning could put up numbers and be successful in ANY system on any team (not necessarily winning titles), whereas Brady could not. Had Brady never been put in this situation, we might never have ever heard of him (other than his days at Michigan). Put Marino and Manning on any team and they'd be putting up big numbers. That's why I think Manning/Marino are better because I don't find them to be system QB's but I think Brady is.

He doesn't deliver a better ball than Brady, although, I'd say he can make the tougher throw, and is a little more accurate.TheJON wrote:I disagree. But at least tell me you'll concede the fact that Manning has better pure talent???
But again, I think a lot those "tough" throws that you see out of Manning are due to his complete lack of athleticism. He puts himself in unnecessary positions, and is forced to make "tough" throws because he has to do it all inside the pocket. Dude's body takes a toll because he can't escape defenders. I'll give him credit though. Dude can make those tough throws. He has a way of cutting right up the middle when he's pressured, lunging forward, and dropping a 30 yard dime. Brady just makes it look easier. He's clearly more relaxed on the field.

But how many times have we seen Brady even get knocked around in the playoffs? Manning has been under a lot more pressure in playoff games. Even yesterday. Manning got knocked down quite a bit and Brady was barely ever even touched. How hard is it to be relaxed when you've got all the time in the world to throw? For as much credit as the Indy O-line has gotten during the regular season every year, they have not taken enough blame for their lack of success in the playoffs. New England's O-line, on the other hand, has done a great job protecting for Brady in big games.

Bullshit on Brady. He was developed in a good system, but that guy could sign with any team right now and put up numbers. If he played in a pass happy offense like Manning, he would have a ton of stats.
You know who else had an unbelieveable arm and could make every throw? Jeff George. Why don't you consider him as one of the all time greats? He had one of, if not the strongest arms in NFL history.

Ron Mexico has more pure talent than Manning and Brady. Doesn't make him a better QB. I'm a fan of Manning, but he has a ways to go to get to Brady's level. Stats do not tell the story. The scoreboard does. The Colts should have buttfucked that NE team in the mouth. The fact the Colts had to climb their way to victory against an overachieving NE team speaks volumes for Tom Brady.TheJON wrote:I disagree. Brady is a winner. We'll see if Manning can join him.

Then Brady Quinn is the best QB in the nation because of the beating he takes. Look at the stats he put up when he was getting drilled. They were better than Smith's. I demand the Heisman be given to Quinn.TheJON wrote:But how many times have we seen Brady even get knocked around in the playoffs? Manning has been under a lot more pressure in playoff games. Part of a QB getting hit is holding on to the ball too long to try to make the impossible throw. Brady doesn't get hit as much because he can, and will, go to his checkdowns.

Up until this year, the entire team has played poorly in the playoffs, Manning included. And without Vinatieri, I'm not sure they would've even beat Baltimore. The bottom line is, Manning has had some of the best offensive support in the NFL throughout his entire career in Indy, and has had very little to show for it. We're talking great O-lines, HOF receiver(s), pro bowl running backs, great TEs...at some point you have to stop trying to make excuses for him, and look at the results, and the results give the BODE to Brady, in an overwhelming way.But how many times have we seen Brady even get knocked around in the playoffs? Killian,
Have I ever said Troy Smith was the best QB in the nation? I think Russell and Quinn are clearly the 2 most talented ones and I think they'll have the best NFL careers.
Jeff George had raw talent, yes. But he did not have Manning's consistency or football IQ. I'd say George was an underachiever. Just like Rick Mirer. They had the tools, but could never put it together.
As for Frisco saying Vick has pure talent, I would disagree with that. Throwing a football really far and with great velocity does not make for a great QB. Accuracy is more important. He is the least accurate QB I think I've ever seen play at that level.
Manning has everything and now he's learning to win the big games. He has better physical tools and now he's coming through in clutch situations. Even when he didn't play real well overall against KC and Baltimore, he made throws with the game on the line that were key to his team winning. And say what you want about NE overachieving, but that's a damn good team. I wouldn't necessarily say they should have pounded NE because you can't blow anyone out when your defense doesn't make plays and Indy's D didn't make plays for much of that game.
I do not think the Bears stand more than a 25% chance of winning (but I hope I am wrong on that). I expect a solid game out of Manning. Then he'll have a Super Bowl ring and the talk of him not being able to win a Super Bowl will be completely shot down. Same goes for Tony Dungy, who has been a great coach in this league for a long time.

Nope. I don't give a shit how many records Marino holds. Same as with Barry Bonds. Unbelievable players, but a notch below some of their peers who performed well in the regular and post seasons.Ken wrote:Whoa, whoa, whoa... with that Marino comment, are you trying to deflect some of the pile on from jon to you?Killian wrote:Marino and Manning will be a shade below the Montana's, Elway's, Young's and Brady's of the world. I think Barry Bonds is a complete piece of shit and I hope he dies in a fire, but to say the guy is not amongst the all-time greats is insane. Never, since possibly Babe Ruth, has one player impacted a game in baseball like Barry Bonds. Even before he roided up, he was one of the top 2-3 players in the game. There isn't a pitcher in baseball that isn't afraid of that guy (well, except maybe Mark Prior!). And where are you getting he doesn't perform well in the playoffs? Oh, sure, his first couple of times with Pittsburgh and then San Francisco he didn't. But his last couple playoff appearances, he has nearly single handedly carried his team. And for fucks sake, it's baseball. It's an averages game. Having a bad postseason doesn't mean you don't play well in the postseason. Just like A-Rod. Dude was a .380 postseason hitter before coming to the Yankees. And now, he's a choker. Either that or maybe, just maybe, he just had a few bad games which happens to EVERYONE quite often in baseball. Having a poor postseason in baseball doesn't make you a choker, it just means you happened to hit a slump that time of the year.
You guys gotta understand that not everyone is going to be the Michael Jordan of their sport in the postseason. And don't claim Brady as the MJ of the NFL. He is not. If you guys want the honest truth on Tom Brady, he's the best quarterback perhaps ever at taking what the defense gives him. And credit him for that. That's not an insult to the guy by any means. And he is very poised, although I'd argue it's not very hard to be poised when you have 3-4 seconds to throw almost everytime (which has been the case for Brady throughout his postseason career). But if you ask Tom Brady to actually make a tough throw, the truth is that he struggles to consistently make tough throws. Everyone always talks about "the drive" against the Rams. Brady did nothing on that drive besides not screwing up. Not one even remotely tough throw. Then he gets MVP in a game where he threw for about 140 yards and where his defense held the best offense in the NFL to 3 1st half points. He's a system QB. There's nothing wrong with being a system QB. That doesn't make him lousy. I'll say this, I do not think anyone in the NFL could run that offense like he does. But, on the other hand, I do not believe he has the talent to run many other offenses. He doesn't have the arm strength or downfield accuracy. He just doesn't. That's a fact.
If I'm building a franchise around 1 player, I'll take Marino and Manning over anyone that's ever played the game. I honestly cannot believe anyone is trying to argue Brady as a better QB than Manning. Just goes to show how most people are poor judges of talent because there isn't an NFL scout that would ever try and make that argument. I'd guarantee you that.

Point to me where exactly I said that he wasn't one of the games all time players. You can't, because I didn't.
Being able to make all the throws doesn't make a great QB. Not having your balls crawl up your asshole when it's crunch time helps just a tad.
And you're a fucking idiot, too. Personally, I wouldn't touch a guy with rumors of nose candy if I was trying to start a franchise. And if you want to use NFL scouts as a guide, most of them had Ryan Leaf as at least an equal to your ass slave, Manning. Many thought he had the higher upside, but Manning was ready to go right away.TheJON wrote:If I'm building a franchise around 1 player, I'll take Marino and Manning over anyone that's ever played the game. So JON you would discount....Elway, Young, Montana, or Aikman, or Favre, or Kelly...all of whom were as good or better than Marino or your new found love manning...so you honestly would take Manning or Marino over any of them? I would argue Elway had a better arm than Manning...and Elway got punked many a time in the Super Bowl before getting his of course having Terrell Davis didn't hurt...much like Manning had EDGE...wow...
Oh wait I would start my team with Brad banks or chuck long...
there is more to it than just making throws...you act like Brady couldn't hit the Atlantic if he was standing in Boston harbor...
and I thought there was only enough room for tate's and ferentz's cock in your mouth...apparently mannings can fit in there as well?

JON, if you want to turn this into a debate on who's the more technically sound passer, that's one thing. But there are still more facets that go into "who's better" than just technical precision. You do understand that, right?
Besides, I don't believe you're any more qualified than a grilled cheese sandwich to accurately discuss the finer points of the two NFL quarterbacks' mechanics.

it's easy to say brady is lucky he happened onto a system best suited for his style, which is that of an 8'3", 115 lb unathletic accountant with absolutely no muscle mass on his right arm, but that's only b/c he doesn't look like much of a football player. i'm sure anyone who's actually caught one of his passes rather than watched him throw them on tv would say brady's as physically gifted as any qb in the nfl. witness his career at umich, when fans clamored for drew henson b/c it was so plainly obvious he'd be better than brady: athletic, mobile, stronger arm, blah blah blah, while brady was, well, brady. that sure worked out...

But Henson was more talented than Brady. His problem was, unlike Brady, his focus was more towards a different sport and that hurt his growth as a QB. You can't tell me that when both were at UM, you were wanting Brady in at QB over Henson?? I always thought Henson should have played football. I thought he was different than others who should choose baseball (for financial reasons). He had the talent for the NFL, but you can't take 3-4 years off to go play a different sport and then expect to come back and make it at quarterback in the NFL. If Joe Mauer decided to quit playing baseball and go play QB in the NFL, he'd never make it even though he was a top recruit a few years ago.
Manning is going to retire with basically every passing record and he'll also retire with at least 1-2 Super Bowl rings. He'll have more MVP's, and next week when he wins Super Bowl MVP, unlike Brady in his 1st Super Bowl, he'll actually have earned it. Because, as far as I'm concerned, Ty Law was clearly the MVP of the Rams-Patriots Super Bowl. Manning has better physical tools, he's now proven he can make it to the Super Bowl, he's got passing stats that Brady could only dream about, and in a little over a week, he'll be a Super Bowl MVP. And once he wins a Super Bowl, there will be no legitimate argument for Brady being the superior QB. I know, I know, Brady's got 3 rings......whatever. Give Manning the playoff luck Brady's had (ahem, tuck rule vs missed FG by Vanderjagt) and he'd have a couple rings too.
Peyton Manning is the face of the NFL right now. The reason people like Brady more is because let's face it......Brady is this good looking, All-American guy and Peyton Manning is a dork with a goofy haircut. If he weren't the captain of the football team in HS, he would have been getting wedgies from his classmates. Whereas, Brady was most likely prom king AND the captain of the football team. That's why the media loves Brady so much. We all want to believe a guy like that is more talented than he really is. So the media overhypes him, and naturally, sports fans buy into the hype which is evidenced by this thread.

So now JON's basing his argument on the rings Brady has won versus all the rings Manning is going to win?
There's a stellar debating strategy.
Comedy-freaking-gold.
JON, when Manning wins alllllll these Super Bowl rings and Super Bowl MVPs you speak of, then we'll talk. Until then, the best your argument can get is still based solely on an AFC Championship and a bunch of statistics. Whoopty-fucking-doooo. In that system, along with one of the greatest receivers in the history of the NFL, I'm pretty sure the brother I never had could put up big time numbers, as well.

You see, the argument that you guys are bringing is that Brady has 3 rings. Fine. IT'S A TEAM GAME! Why do you guys not understand this? Brady hasn't been anywhere's near spectacular in the Super Bowl. In fact, I'd say his Super Bowl performances were nothing but average. Forget the Super Bowl MVP awards he has because he's only played 1 good game out of 3. The Rams game, he was shitty. The Eagles game he was decent and he had a very nice 2nd half against Carolina. And he has 2 good performances in AFC Championship games. Remember, the 1st one, he was injured and Drew Bledsoe was the QB (and played very well against Pittsburgh). I know, the media keeps telling you all how fantastic he plays in these games so it's impossible for me to try and convince you of the truth. But really, we're talking about a couple of good performances in his career in big games. His team, on the other hand, has been fantastic in big games. Viniateri never missed a playoff kick, the defense was outstanding in all 3 Super Bowls (especially against the Rams when Tom Brady stole Ty Law's MVP award because he's the QB).
If the media hasn't been jerking off to the guy, you'd all be on here pimping Peyton Manning.
My argument has nothing to do with what Manning is going to do, Mgo. Learn to fucking read. My argument is that, regardless of what the future brings, Peyton is the better QB RIGHT NOW.
This board is nothing but a media parrot. I honestly cannot believe anyone is trying to argue Brady as a better QB. That's just insane. There really is no debate. Behind closed doors, I'd bet my left nut even Belichik would take Manning. Unlike you guys, he actually knows football.

Here's a question that I want answered, and don't even try and fucking duck this one....
Terry Bradshaw. 3 Super Bowl rings (or is it just 2?) and a Super Bowl MVP. Where do you rank him? Because your arguments for Brady being amongst the best of all-time is his Super Bowl rings/MVP's. So where does Bradshaw (with similar team/indiviudal achievements) rank?

Alas, that doesn't make it so, my desperately-reaching-at-anything-you-can-latch-onto friend. Don't you see? It's your narrow-minded opinions versus what EVERYBODY else has been able to recognize. And you think you're going to win that battle? You're boastful in your efforts to think "outside the box," but that doesn't make your assessments any more correct. You want us to believe your opinions of what you see out of Brady are somehow cold, hard, concrete facts. In the end, it's still just your dipshit brain processing dipshit results.TheJON wrote:In fact, I'd say his Super Bowl performances were nothing but average.
Look, I get your opinion is that Manning is better than Brady, right now even. It's just that the arguments you've offered up in support of that stance have been fucking awful. Seriously. Just mind-numbingly terrible.

So an argument based on the following is a poor argument in favor of 1 QB being superior to the other??......
1.Manning makes tougher throws
2.Manning has a better arm
3.Manning has now proven he can win big games
4.Brady's playoff performances are nothing spectacular
5.Brady won a Super Bowl MVP when he didn't do shit (threw for 148 yards)
6.Brady's supporting cast has performed better than Manning's in the playoffs
7.Brady has been the beneficiary of more luck in the playoffs than Manning
8.Manning has passing statistics Brady could only dream about
9.Manning is on pace to set nearly every passing record imaginable
10.Football is a team game
Yeah, good point. Those are some ridiculous arguments. In fact I change my mind. Brady is better because ESPN tells me so. And that's a much better argument than the crap I listed above. Thanks for helping me figure it out, Mgo.

No we wouldn't. Believe it or not, most of us watch games and don't try to make silly statements because they go against the flow.
Based on what? The fact that he plays in a pass happy offense? Or the fact that he is playing with one of the best #1 recievers of all time, and his #2 would be a #1 on most other teams? It's because he can make all the throws? Nice fucking logic there. So can Daunte Culpepper. But his knee is shot, so no one fucking cares what type of throws he can make.TheJON wrote: My argument has nothing to do with what Manning is going to do, Mgo. Learn to fucking read. This coming from the bitch who is the biggest fucking parrot out there. I think Belichik is just fine with a QB that does what it takes to win, instead of a guy that wants to pad his fucking stats.TheJON wrote:This board is nothing but a media parrot. Honestly, shut the fuck up. You come on here and act like your opinion is the end all, be all when it comes to anything related to football. More times than not you get a plunger shoved so far up your ass you cough up splinters because of your stupid fucking opinions. Most times you try to present something as fact it gets thrown back in your face as well. You know less than a third of what you think you do. Your myopia and arrogance is sad and laughable, considering you have nothing to be myopic or arrogant about.
You boarder on m2 level absurdidites, but he mainly does it for a joke. You take yourself way too seriously and think that your opinion actually matters. Mel Kiper Jr. and Ron Jaworski won't be knocking down your door anytime in the near future because you are either A.) wrong, or B.) spit out their exact same fucking take after they make it.
You can't refute anything that anyone posts because you are incapable of actually carrying on a debate. You fail to address any and all points brought up by others, and constantly change your argument to try to win a battle about opinions. You then resort to temper tantrums and stupid statements in which you have no evidence to back them up.
99% of this board have proven time and time again that they know much more about football than you do. The other 1% are trolls and drive by's.

Brady in the playoffs, here are his stats (14 games) per http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... adTo00.htm and percentages per my calculator....
295 COMP
486 ATT
3217 YARDS
20 TD (1.4 PER GAME)
9 INT
60.6% COMPLETION
10.9 YPC
6.6 YPA
229 YARDS PER GAME
The INT # is pretty good. That's impressive. 60% completion is average. 20 TD's in 14 games is average. 6.6 yards per attempt is probably slightly below average. 10.9 yards per completion is average at best. 229 yards per game is about average.
What's so spectacular about that? And don't bring Manning's #'s into this. I'm talking stricly about Brady here. Tell me exactly what there of the above stats jump out at you? Because all I ever here is how amazing Tom Brady is in the playoffs.

Killian,
Seriously, that is the worst post in the history of this board. Funny you claim that I spit facts about stuff I know nothing of and then you write that garbage. Hello pot, meet kettle. I take myself too serious? That's funny considering I don't think I've ever taken much (other than school and work) serious. And me arrogant? Hahahahahahaha! Couldn't be a more humble person alive than myself. You saying I ramble off shit and call them facts is funny considering that garbage you just wrote couldn't be any further from the truth. And saying I parrot things from other people, again, you're way off base. Believe what you want, fine by me. There are people in the media I trust more than others and typically respect their opinions. But I usually take the opposite stance of what most media members feel. And saying I know less than I think is, once again, way far off base. Anyone that knows me personally, usually comes to me for any sports related question so I must know something. And that includes a good friend of mine who happens to run a well trafficed sports website. You don't know a damn thing about me, so don't even try and write that crap. Kiper may not come to me anytime soon, nor will I go knocking on his door anytime soon either. But you don't know who I know, what I know, or how connected I am. And you'd be very surprised to know exactly what it is I do for a living.

Pure talent? What the fuck does that mean? Vick is the best running back to ever put his hands under the center. He's a horrible quarterback. He's not talented at all. He's an athletic football player out of position. Doesn't mean he's talented. God damn. That is about the dumbest statement I've ever read on these boards.

My argument for Brady in this thread has been simply that he's better than Peyton Manning, douche (even though I believe he will go down as such). This is a Manning v Brady debate. Bradshaw doesn't factor into the equation in any logical way. Notice how YOU keep having to toss out other names to try and defend Manning? What's wrong? Can't defend Manning on his own?

I didn't say pure "QB" talent. I was including all his athleticism.ucantdoitdoggieSTyle2 wrote:IndyFrisco wrote:Ron Mexico has more pure talent than Manning and Brady. In any case, yeah, it was a dumb statement...intentionally. You need to know jon in order to know why I wrote something so stupid. RMPL.

What the fuck is wrong with you?
You think it's fair to throw out Peyton's postseason stats in a debate that revolves around...Peyton versus Brady?
How very convenient of you. You do realize this "debate" is about Manning v Brady, right? So how are Manning's numbers in comparison to Brady's in the poststeason, NOT relevant to this debate, dickhead?
