Everyones geting into the SuperBowl spirit...
Being a long time Colts fan, I have seen a lot of heartbreak with this team. With that knowledge in mind, I have deliberately tried to keep MY Colts playoff chatter to a minimum this post season, not wanting to fuck with the karma that the team seems to be riding at present time. Honestly, of the teams they have put together over the last 4-5 years, this is the one that I was least hopeful/confident about making any kind of run in the playoffs, let alone the current trip they're making to Florida. I guess that's why they play the game.
Trying to keep this idiosyncratic notion in tact, but also to share some of the lighter side; I wanted to pass along this little commentary on the city's Colts pride.
Watching Indy TV stations the last couple weeks, it is kind of fun watching the late news, and hearing how everyone is living it up, and celebrating the SuperBowl berth. It seems the whole town has gone SuperBowl crazy, and this isn't just limited to the die-hard fans. Everyone seems to be joining in the revelry.

Sad as this may be, my wife and I couldn't help but chuckle this evening, as the Fox affiliate previewed these top stories for the late local news following tonights "24" episode. This blurb was run sandwiched in between a highlight of the downtown "Do the Blue" pep rally, and a highlight of the teams arrival today in Miami.

If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Clean the fucking car!

I just hope you don't jinx it with that line right there!Tiny wrote:Honestly, of the teams they have put together over the last 4-5 years, this is the one that I was least hopeful/confident about making any kind of run in the playoffs,
I am definitely pulling for the Colts. Peyton deserves it, plus they're the AFC and my fiancee is a Packers fan so she's already anti-Bears anyway.
War Super Bowl Sunday, and the day after, a national holiday!

http://www.theoneboard.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=21725Honestly, I don't know that winning one Superbowl would even do much to challenge the commonly held belief that the team didn't live up to expectations.
Shouldn't you, like, be waiting for them to at least win TWO or more SB's before getting all geeked up?
Ok, Tiny... I'm just busting your balls here. But in retrospect, even you will have to admit that that, and some of your other takes before the KC game were total horseshit. Yes?
Enjoy all the hype, hoopla, and fanfare of making it to the SB now that your team is actually there. I damn sure would.
And btw, I'm rooting for Indy because I'm an AFC guy.

Would you want the Broncos to win if they were there?War Wagon wrote:And btw, I'm rooting for Indy because I'm an AFC guy.
Somehow, I just dont see myself as a "conference guy". I'd hate to see the Redskins win anything.

Probably has something to do with all the disrespect the AFC had to endure before, during, and after the merger. That, and Lamar wanted it that way.
In fact, I did root for them when horseface finally got over. That after having beaten KC to even get there. Seems that the teams that beat my team eventually go on to win championships. See UCLA beating Mizzou with a last second miracle shot from Tyus Edney. Fucker.
Actually Wags, tell me just how I was supposed to expect anything different from them, this year? I mean hell, last year was the: "They're 13-0, they're blowing everyone out, they're going all the way....errr.....crash & burn at home, once again" season. So yes, after watching them drop 3 out of 4 to finish the regular season this year, I wholly expected that same shitty defense to show up, and that same big game bad judgement routine out of Peyton. Somebody can only be burned so many times, before they think : "hey, maybe if I don't put my finger back into that flame, maybe I won't have to deal with all the freaking pain..." Makes sense to me.
Tell me ANYBODY who predicted the Colts D to come out, and man up come game time the way they did.
Actually, if you take a look back at my comments in the link you provided, I was pretty dead on in my first post, if you don't hold me to calling for it in the KC game anyway.
Mix in a Vinatieri FG, and my call looks pretty dead on. When I was sitting there watching Samuel run back that pick, I tell you that post was haunting me pretty bad.
Colts-Pats Box Score
Speaking of that first post:
Who knows.
So Wags, I hate to admit it, but maybe Paul was closer with his reverse psychology comment than I'd like to admit. But when you're used to expecting the least, and then you don't get it, it's not only refreshing, but pretty damn sweet.
I'll give you that maybe I went a bit far with that "haytin' " routine, but again I haven't grown accustomed to them winning in the playoffs, so....SUE ME.

Now that's not exactly predicting the second coming of the messiah, but I still see that as being pretty freaking accurate. (BTW: they shouldn't need one players attitude, just to play up to their potential). Maybe they were sandbagging it the last 6 games..... Rope-a-dope anyone???170+??? Hell, I'll be happy if they keep LJ under 270 for the day. Bob Sanders is the only real man on the starting D, and he can't be everywhere. Let alone the fact that his scoped knee isn't 100%.
Why the hell they can't wrap anybody up, is beyond me. My goodness, this is gonna be a long afternoon.....
Who knows.

BTW Wags, I'm with ya on the pulling for the AFC. I wouldn't necessarily like it, but I'd root for them anyway....hell, I was even pullin' for the Raiders a few years back....tell me that wasn't pretty fucked up.

It's called being a FAN, Tiny.Tiny wrote:Somebody can only be burned so many times, before they think : "hey, maybe if I don't put my finger back into that flame, maybe I won't have to deal with all the freaking pain..." Makes sense to me.
Eternally optimistic, the glass is always, and will always, be half full. There's always next year.
Pain? I know this feeling. 3 times KC has had a 13-3 record and homefield thru-out, and then lost in an excruciatingly painfull manner. I still feel this pain.
I first felt this pain when as a teen-ager the Royals lost to the Yankees in the ALCS 3 consecutive years 1976, 1977, and 1978. That was painful, brother.
But in 1980 they finally beat them damn Yankees, and in 1985 they won the World fucking Series. Glorious Vindication and Redemption for all the pain endured prior.
Hopefully, someday before I die, the Kansas City motherfucking Chiefs will make it back to that promised land. And I'll be sitting there in my forklift/wheel chair in the nursing home with a big old stupid grin on my face because I never gave up hope.
Enjoy it while you can, Tiny.

It's the pile of shit bowl.
Nice league.
Know what I'm saying?
Both teams are SUPER!... sorta', well at least Indy made it thru the AFC gauntlet, and quite the gauntlet it was.
You will knuckle under and accept.
Or else... I don't want to hear it.
Tell me about it wags: growing up, it was the Bears/Cubs/ALT Braves trifecta, as they were the only teams playing on the shitty cable service this little burg had. And ohh...before somebody pipes up with: "The Braves used to be awesome..." This was the Dale Murphy led Braves, not the Glavin, Maddox, Smotlz Braves of the late 80's thru 1990's.
Once in a while we got to see the Lions play, on an exciting twin bill of NFL Sundays. BONUS!
I have felt your pain. At least we had the '85 Bears to show us how good it could be.
Yeah, Yeah, I know: First liar doesn't stand a chance.
