For what it's worth, here is how I rank the Raider Super Bowl teams.

Losers:

1967: Very difficult to guage the early Super Bowls. Oakland was 13-1 in the AFL, but seeing as how an AFL team had not broken through and won a Super Bowl, I can't put a lot of stock in that record. The Raiders DID have numerous future Hall of Fame players on the team, however. Oakland got smoked by the class of the league, the Packers. I guess I'd put this Raider team around 30th among losing Super Bowl teams.

2002: Too pass-happy, and the defense was fairly mediocre. Would have definitely been the worst Raider team to win a Super Bowl had they somehow gotten over on Tampa Bay. Around 25th among Super Bowl losing teams.


Winners:

1976: 13-1 record. Got over on Pittsburgh, but the Steelers were majorly dinged-up at the time. Despite the famous Jack Tatum hit on Sammy White, the Raider defense was middle-of-the-pack, so I grade the team down. Many future Hall of Fame players on this team. I'd put them about 20th all-time among Super Bowl winners.

1980: First wild card team to win it all. Plunkett sparked the team, but truth is this was not a 'great' team. Again, a lot of Hall of Fame players on the roster. I'd rank 'em between 25-30 among Super Bowl winning teams.

1983: A truly great team. Stomped the defending Super Bowl champs. One of the great corner tandems in Hayes and Haynes, and just an overall EXCELLENT defensive unit. Hall of Fame running back in his prime, running behind a terrific O-line. They take a place among the top 10 of all-time Super Bowl winning teams.

You're forgetting Bettis (he's already a lock) and Ward (3 more years should do it).

Other players who's careers might someday be hall worthy are Porter, Hampton, Polamalu and maybe Roethlisberger if he gets his head out of his ass during the off season.

And since when does an RBBC downgrade a team? The Bus did his job in short yardage, Parker handled the bulk of the carries, Haynes was 3rd down guy and Staley rocked the latest Reebok fashion on the sidelines. Just like Csonka, Morris and Kiick. ;)

Ward won't make it.

The other guys you mentioned are dreamers at this point.

I suggest that my brother poptart (and all football fans, for that matter) read the book excerpt in last weeks SI by David Halberstan entitled "The Ritual Begins" if they want to understand America's devotion to both the NFL and the SuperBowl. You can get your hands on a copy of SI in S. Korea, can't you 'tart?

Rack you for paying $72 per year for SI. It enables them to offer me a “Professional Subscription Rate” of maybe half that amount.
