Ticket requests pour in for London NFL game


LONDON -- The NFL's first regular-season game outside North America already looks like a big hit.

More than 500,000 tickets were requested by about 160,000 fans in the three days following Friday's official announcement, the NFL said Wednesday.

The ticket request process ends Feb. 18, two months before tickets go on sale for the Oct. 28 game between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.

Wembley is expecting to seat between 85,000-90,000 for the game.

"Nearly all these requests have come from UK based fans," said Alistair Kirkwood, the managing director of NFL UK. "These figures do not take into account the allocation of tickets for Dolphins and Giants fans from the United States, so we anticipate a very quick sellout when tickets go on sale in early March.""

On Sunday, more than 4,000 fans gathered in London to watch the Super Bowl at Super Bash, which is in its fourth year.

Who gives a fuck? I'm sure the season ticket prices will be discounted accordingly. And the teams will share the loss of a home date over the duration of the scheduling of these games.

The simple fact is that the NFL is trying to get the rest of the world on board with American football. Playing exhibition games just won't cut it. People want to see games that mean something.

This is an easy one Tart. It's a NYG "home" game since they were gracious enough to give their stadium to New Orleans two years ago for the Saints "home" game. The Giants owe the NFL this.

from what ive heard this will start being a regular thing, and every team will give up a home game over the next couple years.. thats how they are going to make up for it. just wait till the Arizona Cardinals play the Texans in England. Hell they cant fill the stadium in America for that game.

Miami has zero problem kicking this game overseas. They're spared the embarrassment of having just six home games next season since the Jets already own that place every time they visit.

Because I appreciate the answers people give. I think there's a collection of insightful people here who provide entertaining and informative content. Saying it's a "bad move" intrigued me. I wanted to see what the overall angle was on that assessment.

You're contention is that's it alienating season ticket holders of the teams. I would assume they're given some other perk or something, who knows.

Perhaps Poptart's is that any move to broaden the NFL will, dilute the talent pool even more.

Fuck the Season Ticket holder, we've already spent their cash. Don't use any lube when they come to the game and try and park either.

tart, Im with you on the part about the NFL being all about money, and I would gladly be more than happy to pile on if that was the lone issue. However, I do not see you having one problem with the NFL. I dont even see you having two or three. I am at the point, I must ask you this .......... Is there anything you still like about the NFL? I like a lot of things about the NFL, dave.
It beats the hell out of the NBA, MLB.

Most of that, however, is due to pro football being a more compelling product to begin with.
Not a lot of it has to do with the NFL 'powers that be' doing things right.

I'm back in America for a short time right now, and am busy, busy, busy.
So until such time as I can post more thoughts, that will have to suffice.
