Saw the Renzo Gracie - Shamrock fight tonight on Showtime - Ended in a DQ win by Gracie.
Renzo had side control and Shamrock threw 2 knees that hit behind the neck.
Gracie rolled over and couldnt continue and Herb Dean gave him the DQ
Not a great card otherwise - The girl fight was decent and I'd not seen Bigfoot Silva before - he was impressive in a KO of Cabbbage

Didn't see the fight, and back in his UFC days, I never had a problem with the guy...but Renzo is, despite his in-the-ring animal persona, he is truly one of the nice guys of the sport, and one of its great embassadors.
I've never met him personally, but I know others who have, and not one of them has a bad word to say about the guy, and he's usually described as the "nicest, most friendly guy you will ever meet."
That's the equivalent of Alanzo Mourning kneeing Steve Kerr in the groin.

Just finished watching it again with my son, and we agreed we'd never seen a DQ for that.
Basically, Renzo had Shamrock in side mount and Frank brought the knee back hard twice to Gracie's head. The second one, that did the damage, seemed to glance off Renzo's shoulder. We wern't really sure of the rule, and if it was a foul, why didn't Dean call it after the first one? It sure didn't look intentional, and I don't know how they could have called it like that.
If that had been a PPV, or I'd been in the crowd, I'd have been pissed.
BTW, Cesar Gracie would also fit into the douche category after listening to his interview in the ring after the stop. I didn't see his loss to Shamrock, but you could tell there was some hate leftover.

There are no kicks or knees to the head of a downed (grounded) opponent - no matter the position of the striker.
You can't purposely strike to the back of the head (rabbit punch).

I was actually surprised at how dominant Renzo was. Many still consider Frank Shamrock to be at the top of the middleweight food chain. I don't - he hasn't fought enough in the last few years to warrant such praise and hasn't fought anyone of note since whipping Tito Ortiz in 1999. Nevertheless, Shamrock is still a force to be reckoned with because his talent is limitless.
