Under further review, college football rules-makers admit they were wrong.

Smart move. I know every football fan just loved shortened games and more commercial time.

I will say that the old rules were better, but as the season went on I think I got used to the new clock rules and it didn't bother me much. I was at the Iowa State-Toledo game which was one of the first CFB games of the year (Thursday night) and remember leaving the game thinking "holy fuck, these new clock rules are retarded" and remember saying the NCAA would change them back by mid-season. But as the season went on, I ended up disliking them less. Still, good to have the old rules back.

What I would like them to do is change the overtime rule. Move the ball to midfield and keep everything the same. Other than that, rules are pretty solid right now except a few minor things that aren't big deals.

You got it. I don't know what it is, longer commercial breaks perhaps, but ND's games on NBC seem to go on forever. And since I'm the only college football fan in the house, the natives start to get really restless in the fourth quarter.

I noticed less of that this past season, with the clock rules. But from the standpoint of the integrity of the game, scrapping those rules is the way to go.

it's a weird stroke of luck for CFB fan, but they are trying to duplicate the same "effect" by moving the kickoff back 5 yards, no?

as it stands, a TTech-Missouri game is a 4 hour affair. i remember last year, after torturing through the 1 hour quarters of OU at Mizzou to the flow of the OU-ATM. it's like playing golf behind some slowass foursome or playing as a 3 with no one in front.

i'm not in anyway sticking up for the NCAA, if the fans bitching has had any impact on this decision....war the multitudes!

They better not move the kickoffs back 5 yards. Kickoff coverage in college football is shitty enough. Why do they feel the need to always tweak the rules? Just leave them alone, and quit fucking with them.

NCAA wants to speed up games...

To make up for the time being added back, the committee proposed the following changes:

• Using a 15-second play clock immediately after timeouts instead of a 25-second clock; (OK)
• Reducing timeouts from 65 seconds to 30 seconds; (OK)
• Kicking off from the 30-yard line instead of the 35 to cut down on touchbacks; (DON'T LIKE)
• Limiting the time officials have to review a replay to two minutes. (OK)

They'll move the ball back 5 yards to decrease the number of touchbacks to speed up the game?? They are fucking retarded. Actually, what's going to happen is it will SLOW the game down. More kickoffs will be ran back for scores (and nothing slows the game down more than that), and the more kicks that are returned, the better the field position teams will get. And the better the field position, the better the chance of scoring points. And the more points scored, the slower the game goes. The NCAA does realize the longest play stoppage is in between scores, don't they?

Next year they'll change it to flag football to eliminate injuries. They have a continuos clock running, and players' uniforms will be changed to the ones they wore in that Digiorno Pizza commercial with Steve Spurrier after he lost that bet with Ty Willingham.

Fuck the NCAA!

I agree with JON (can't believe I just typed that). There's an argument to be made in favor of moving back kickoffs 5 yards, but speeding up the game is not it. If anything, it'll slow down the game.

And for that matter, while the kickoff return is one of the most exciting plays in the game, it's not as though all the kickers are routinely putting every kickoff in the end zone right now. The NCAA has far more pressing issues to address than this one.

If they move it back 5 yards, ND should just kick it out of bounds every time. Their kickers can barely get it to the 5 now, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

If they move it back 5 more, it will also possibly burn a scholly for a lot of schools. Kickers who can beat the shit out of the ball but maybe not kick a field goal for shit will be in high demand.

Not everyone likes all the new proposed tweaks. According to today's Lubbock Avalance, one coach doesn't seem so enamored with the shortening of team timeouts from 65 seconds to 30.
