You should be mad, because that is fucking horrible. There is no excuse for scheduling a 1AA team, ever.

And then there were 5 who have never scheduled a 1AA team:

Notre Dame
USC
UCLA
Washington
Michigan State

That's pathetic...Michigan deserves all criticism that will come their way over this decision.

Why couldn't the Big Ten just make the conference season another game longer instead of adding a fourth non-conference game? No Iowa, Purdue or Indiana but they get to play the mighty Mountaineers of ASU instead. Michigan has two solid non-conference opponents in Notre Dame and Oregon and then their token MAC lamb-to-slaughter team in EMU. That's about as good as you could expect out of non-conference slate for Michigan right now. I just don't see how scheduling another cream puff vs. playing a 9th conference game is beneficial for the conference.

We hope to maintain our leadership in dynamic, aggressive scheduling in NCAA football. We believe that all institutions of higher learning deserve the opportunity to increase earnings with marquee matchups....

Therefore, we are currently scouting Div III programs as possible opponents for next season. Some of our AD's are currently in negotiations with esteemed programs Oaks Christian of California, De La Salle of California, and Lakeland High in Florida....Naturally, we would elevate those schools experience by requiring them to travel to our fine stadiums and play on our home fields.......

Hey, it was your argument, not mine.....and, yes, you kicked your ass using it. Using your argument, the PAC-10 is superior to the SEC. The fact that you were unable to recognize this before posting your tripe is just....oh, so T-Rex, I guess.

Props to the Gators for winning the NC but don't come in using SOS to make a claim that the SEC is somehow superior. They aren't.
No I did not. YOU ASSUMED that portion. I never claimed any BODE about anything and challenge you to find a direct quote where I did......can't? Obviously you haven't been around for very long or you don't realize what I am talking about or you are just plain stupid. I certainly did not bring up the Pac-10 or mention BODE FOR THE SEC, did I? No. It was a simple response to most of this board complaining about the OOC SOS of the SEC week in and week out, over and over and over.....no Bode, no dig on the Pac 10. You assumed and miscomprehended my intent. You are a poor read on people and quick to judge. Your ignorance you wear like a tight coat on a cold winter morning. You want to take it off but you can't.

Ahhhh, now it must hit you.....yes.....I was never arguing ANY conference was better. I was just pointing out to all the SEC S schedule complainers on this board that for all their complaining we still play TOUGH schedules. You inferred the rest and made yourself look like a complete ass.

Nice tripe asshole.

I simply pointed out that you using that argument regarding the SEC's SOS is assinine when another conference (PAC-10) had SEVEN teams in the top 20.
You ARE stupid. Seer makes a joke about SEC schedule(which has nothing to do with Pac 10 or the conference with the toughest schedule)....now follow me here.....I in turn post a link to where it shows that UF(#1) and four other SEC schools....FIVE total are in the top 20. This is a direct reponse to Seer and many others complaining about the SEC's OOC schedule. Again, show me where the FUCK I said the SEC was the best or even inferred it? I certainly NEVER said a word about the Pac 10, did I?
Maybe I did "assume" that you were claiming "board"....because that's what you always do....and that, as usual, you were wrong. An easy assumption by anyone who has ever read your bullshit but, after reading it all again.....yep, you were somehow trying to claim "board" over other conferences citing the SOS. End of story, cuntlips.

And to be wrong, don't you have to claim something false to begin with???? Please show us all where I was trying to claim "board" over any other conference. Please SHOW US ALL where I said the SEC was the best or toughest schedule or whatever.....are you trying to get a leg up on next year's board bitch by flaming out this early.

Fla. had a good year & finished #1.

Sec played a lot of lower div teams.

Pac-10 had toughest SOS stats....

I'm sorry, tell me again when any of Air Force, Navy or Army became 1AA? And when scheduling cupcakes, ND at least does it with teams they have a history with, and they are helping out the military academies at the same time. Yeah, shame on them.

And I'll give you a couple of reasons why SEC schools should schedule someone in the non conference. First, until an SEC team plays in cold weather they'll always have that tinge of teams who win Super Bowls only playin in domes. Second, the Pac-10 does a pretty good job of scheduling in the non-conference, and they have some of the top schedules in the country.

Nice arguement......oh, I'm sorry....there isn't one.

Huge fuckin hole in this dudes way of determining SOS, Ill save you the faggy lil internet laughter.
This clown from your link says that Fla had the #1 SOS based on the fact that Flas opponents had 101 wins where USC's Opponents had just 84 wins.
First off, Fla played 14 games where USC played 13 so go ahead and remove either Arkansas and their 10 wins or Florida and their 12.
Now lets take a look at who Floridas 101 collective wins were against
41 of the 101 wins that Fla's opponents had were jokes at best as they were vs these teams
South East Loisiana (2-9 in 1AA)
Central Florida (4-8 )
Memphis 3 times (2-10)
Alabama Birmingham 3 times (3-9)
Marshall 3 times (5-7)
Ohio
Villanova (6-5 in 1AA)
Texas State (5-6 in 1AA)
Central Michigan
La Monroe 3 times (4-8 )
Duke 2 times (0-12)
Hawaii
Florida International (0-12)
Louisiana Lafayette (6-6)
Tulane 2 times (4-8 )
Arkansas State (6-6)
Western Kentucky (2-9 in 1AA)
Tennessee State (6-5 1AA)
Temple (1-11)
Wofford (7-4 1AA)
Florida Atlantic (5-7)
Middle Tennessee State (7-6)
Troy State (8-5)
Rice (7-6)
Western Michigan (8-5)
Utah State (1-11)
South East Missouri (4-7 1AA)
Northern Illinois (7-6)
Cincinnati (8-5)
Bowling Green (4-8 )

Again, this goes to the collective powderpuff scheduling done by SEC schools. Any conference can boast of having a great SOS if every school in the conf had 4 gimme's on their schedule to fluff up their record.
So as you see the hole in dudes SOS ranking system is as big as the hole between T-rexs legs and apparently, the legs of every AD in the SEC

Sagarin actually ranks the strength of the teams that the team beats, not just the record
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt06.htm
Fla was still top 10 but their SOS was 8th even with the 14 games

Well true...but this year the Big 10 should be much better so what say you about Michigan's conference schedule with

PSU
tOSU
Wisconsin

plus ND and Oregon non con...still a quality schedule...

tOSU takes a hit with YSU, Akron, Washington, and some other cream puff but the back end of their schedule is brutal with Wisconsin, PSU, ILL, and Michigan 4 weeks in a row...

I am not debating the relative strength of the SEC, but they did have what 7 teams ranked in the top 25 to start the year and when UT bitchslapped Cal that helped tremendously as UF got UT when they were ranked pretty high...top 25 rankings also factor into schedule strength (correct?) so that would also hold that with so many SEC teams ranked to start the year (again I believe 7) they already started with a strong conference from a ranking perspective. Let's also not forget that the SEC was what the 4th rated conference in 2005 according to Sagarin...so this shit is cyclical...

did UF win a MNC? still trying to figure out if they did or not...(sarcasm)

appalacian state isn't D-1A; they're straight D1 now, though with some sort of orwellian designation pointing out they're in a division that decides its champion in a playoff, whereas the old D-1A is designated as bootleg.

that said, i'm embarrassed.

This will be the end of the 100,000+ streak if they keep this up. They are going to have to suck it up and do some home and homes or people are just going to stop going. It costs me $100 a seat to attend a game. There is nothing compelling, other than the fact its the first game of the year, about watching Appalachian State get their ass kicked in 90 degree heat.

I am not happy.

i don't think it'll be the end of the sellout streak; i think the last non-sellout was in 1976 or some shite like that. the voice of the consumer is a myth to make us feel like we have a say in the marketplace. umich could drop into the mac next year and the mega red division the year after and us lemmings would still buy tickets.

that said, umich and osu have different ticketing policies, at least from what i understand, and only of that student policy at that. i think osu students get a single game and are dependent on a draw to find out which game they get to attend. the only package umich offers is the traditional all or none.

more that said, i absolutely love how the athletic dept has conveniently pointed out appalacian state's the only nc school to win a football national championship. i'm sure they're actually a better team than eastern and other mac bottom-feeders we're "allowed" to play, so why invite all the shit yr going to get for scheduling a d1aa school?

tOSU students still get season tickets.

tOSU alumni (that don't donate shit loads of money) only get one game in a draw

tOSU public get to buy tickets if there are any left.

It'll be a sellout, no question. I too wondered about the +100 k streak. I think they're starting to take it for granted. The "seat liscensing" or whatever they're calling it, is starting to piss off some long standing ticket holders. The significant price increase, along with the bs schedule, is/will turn some folks off. Keep pissing of the masses and see how many people are really on the alleged "waiting list". Long time season ticket holders are already bailing... they don't really care for the "modernization" of the Big House. High priced suites, corporate boxes and the like are not what made Michigan Stadium special. A lot of old timers won't transition to the new Big House. This will be a huge loss. I know Michigan Stadium can be the quietest 110,000 in the land, but there's alot to be said for sitting next to someone who went to school with Benny Oosterban, or whose dad hung out with Fritz Crisler, or who was pissed when the school hired a little known Bo Schembechler. Tradition is priceless. In todays age of "win it all, or the season sucks", it's nice to harken back to the glory days of college football. Days when it wasn't about a profit and loss statement, or how many kid got drafted, or year round recruiting battles. What's wrong with the innocence of old school CFB? I still love the game...probably always will. But I once said that about the NBA...and it has been ruined by TV, and money grubbing corporate heads... can CFB be far behind?

I find that hard to belive, given the waiting list for season tickets and how many people want to see UofM play but typically cannot.

^^Solid take. Though I've poked fun at you guys about some of the traditions before, I think the days you speak of are soon to be long gone. I was a little leery when Ohio Stadium was under construction a few years back. I think the end product turned out great, but I'm still not the biggest fan of the luxury boxes. Just screams too much NFL for me.

I to have poked fun at Wolverine fan about some stuff but that is classic when you can sit next to someone who knew of the glory days...

in fact at a gym back in Bedford Hts, OH...I used to lift with a guy at 5 am craziest son of a bitch I knew...know who he played for? Yep Woody and he had the same attitude...dude was crazy and always used to talk about the "Old Man" in reverent tones...lots of cool stories I heard while lifting and just great stuff...

Lance I like the new stadium and they are going to field turf...which I guess is ok but I am a natural grass kind of guy...

That deserves a rack. Oh, and btw . . .

tOSU alumni (that don't donate shit loads of money) only get one game in a draw

tOSU public get to buy tickets if there are any left.
That's pretty much the way it is at ND as well. Except those in category 2 may get two games (if they're lucky) and those in category 3 invariably get shut out (except for parents of current students, who usually get one game pre-selected by ND).

i've shit on scU-M fan many times here, but i really feel for you guys on this one. this is the "new era" of michigan football at the big house, and it doesn't look pretty for the regular wolverine fan.

maybe next time, one of these multi billionaire honchos who donate money to the school will try to hold the athletic department accountable for its actions. and football isn't the only place they are screwing their fans, hockey is taking it to them as well. nothing like jacking up ticket prices when your team isn't even sniffing a league championship, nevertheless a national title like they were in the late 90s early 00s.

#2 is a little shade of gray as well. In '05, my one ticket lottery fell on Texas weekend. Fucking awesome.

In '06, my money was refunded to me as the OSU Ticket Office gave me the ole Indiana Jones/Zeppelin treatment.
