GMs recommend change to instigator rule

Cheers to that...tough guys should be allowed to protect their star players just like they could in the past. Players shouldn't be given free reign to just jump players without probable cause but if your star players gets hit, that guy should have to face the other team's tough guy. Hopefully this will get us back to the old days of enforcers being enforcers...not just having two tough guys fight at random points in the game. I hope the rules committee approves this change in the summer. I don't see why they won't.

I think last night's game between the Sabres and Sens is a great game to show of why there should or shouldn't be an instigator rule.

To me, Drury should've kept his head up but Neil went out of his way to pop him skating through the middle of the ice. Drury would be considered one of those guys on the "protected list" with the Sabres. Ruff was well in his right to get retribution and Murray was foolish to have his top line out right after the initial incident. Since the Sabres were the home team and had the last change, Ruff probably saw Heatley and Spezza on the ice and thought he had his opportunity to send out his tough guys like Peters and Mair to get some revenge. I don't think they did anything out of the ordinary...just tried to draw the Senators players into fights. Heatley and Spezza aren't known fighters so it looked like the Sabres were just gooning it up in response to the questionable hit on their star player. Really, it's a common practice to get retribution after a hit like that and Murray should've known from Ruff's reaction that his guys would be targets down the line. The ideal situation for the Sens would've been to have Neil square of with Peters or Mair later in the game but Ruff wanted revenge right away while the emotions were still there.

He did have his head up. He was watching the shot when Neil blindsided him and went for his head. Typical type of hit by a cheap shot player.

Bryan Murray is no angel, I was hoping he would hop the glass and watch Ruff pound him. Can't wait to see what happens in Ottawa tomorrow.

I do have a social life but I'm not broadcasting my every move like I used to...it's a little thing called "none of your damn business".

By the way, you post on a message board too...don't act like you're high and mighty.
