Trevis Smith sentenced to 5 1/2 years

REGINA, Saskatchewan (AP) - A former Canadian Football League player infected with HIV was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison Monday for knowingly exposing two women to the virus by having unprotected sex with them.

Trevis Smith, a linebacker who attended Alabama and later played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was found guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault this month. Judge Kenn Bellerose also sentenced Smith to an additional six months in prison for various bail violations.
Smith was convicted this month and has filed an appeal.

During the trial, a Regina woman and another woman from British Columbia testified that he said he had unprotected sex with them even though he knew he was HIV-positive, something he never told them.

Smith, who played for Saskatchewan from 1998-05, said that wasn't true, but the judge said he believed the women.

I think what Frisco is getting at is this disease can be completely destroyed if the people who have the disease would stop spreading it. It would be nice if we found a cure but in truth a cure already exists for those who don't have the disease, don't get it.

we could address the social, cultural, and most especially the economic factors that support transmission. or we could sew their slits closed, perhaps even corral them into concentration camps and fire up the ovens.

I won't try to speak for IF, but I agree with what Vito is getting at.

[Devil's Advocate]And I'm sure that back when he was "getting around" before marriage, IF was tested for HPV*, HSV, HBV**, and all of those other viruses that aren't normally tested for, which can really put a whooping on certain people who are more prone to illness from them than others...kind of like how HIV doesn't do much of anything to many people who catch it, and therefore have no imminent reason to get tested for it.

Really easy to preach from the bleachers without walking a mile in anyone else's shoes, or thinking through all the scenarios before passing judgement.

* - I'm guessing a good chunk of the dudes here are walking around with HPV, which generally doesn't usually affect men too much...but is deadly to a percentage of the female population. Everyone been tested for that? It's been estimated that up to 75% of promiscuous men(which you all claim to be, what with that "mad game" and all...

** - Around 5% of you reading this are walking around as a hepatitis B carrier, and don't know it

no, but that's b/c i've had overwhelming experiences with the hiv. i might actually concur with the castration part of yr equation, though.
