Green plan taps wallet

Post by Canadian »

The B.C. government wants to tap into your wallet to power a new energy initiative.

The province's new energy plan includes a $25-million Innovative Clean Energy Fund to encourage development of clean and efficient technologies in electricity, transportation, and the oil and gas sectors.

However, the fund will be partly financed by a "small levy" on the ratepayers utility bill, a move critics say will open the door for more privatization.

"The net result of this energy plan is that when ratepayers open their Hydro bills, they will pay more," said Gwenne Farrell, senior financial analyst at BC Hydro and vice president of the union representing Hydro workers.

"Put simply, private power production costs more, and now we have a new tax that exists solely to subsidize the private energy companies."

Well I hope that money is well spent unlike the surcharge we pay on our hydro bills for that incompetent translink.
