NCAA Tourney

Post by Mook »

Alright, first things first, I'm as excited about Kansas' chances this year as I have been anytime since 1997........ask Arizona how that year turned out. Anyway, there isn't one team that I think is playing better than KU right now. They are rebounding well, playing nice defense, they look good on offense and most importantly they are hustling their asses off for 40 minutes a game. Whatever happens this is a damn good team that finally started playing to their potential over the last four weeks or so, right after the lost to Texas Tech in Lubbock.

On to the tournament, I think the committee did a pretty good job with the seeds this year. It's pretty hard to pick any big upsets, although I have a couple and some will definitely occur. Overall though, I think I'll pick fewer upsets than anytime in recent memory. As for the schools who got "snubbed". Well, I really think that if you have to wonder whether or not you'll get picked to be in the tourney, then you don't deserve to be in said tourney. Too f'ing bad K-State, Syracuse, Air Force and whoever else is whining out there. In the immortal words of Bob Huggins, "win more games." In terms of sleeper teams, I think Long Beach State could reach the Sweet Sixteen and so could Winthrop, although everybody and their brother is on Winthrop. UNLV and BYU out of the Mountain West could also surprise the two Big 10 powers in the second round. I'm not saying it will happen, but it certainly could. I think BYU poses some match-up problems for Ohio State and UNLV has plenty of athletes who can hang with Wiscy. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm going on springbreak with the family so I will miss some of Thursday and Friday.......the kids will have fun but the timing of their springbreak really sucks when the old man is a big college hoops fan. Oh well, I'll be back for the Saturday night and Sunday games. I won't miss all of the opening weekend and I suppose I'll be able to catch the evening games in the hotel, at least whatever the freaking network is showing in sunny California. I will definitely miss my satellite Thursday and Friday nights.

Now for some bets and I know there are other degenerates out there! The following have been made for the opening round.....feel free to bet against these, I'm sure they'll lose.

ML Parlay:
Texas
Southern Illinois
Niagara...................this one is against Florida A&M

Stanford +5.5
Vandy -3.5
BYU +1.5
Winthrop +4
LBSU +7
Nevada -1

Way to jinx 'em there Mook. You should know better than anybody how shit happens in the tourney.

But yeah, I agree. I have the Gayhawks going all the way. Told ya' that about a month ago.

Overall though, I think I'll pick fewer upsets than anytime in recent memory.
Picked a bunch of them myself. Going with the chalk never seems to work, so fuck it. If I'm gonna' lose, let's lose BIG, baby.

Not down.

If you can explain to me how Arkansas deserves to be in over K-State, wait... there's no way that you can. Nevermind.
everybody and their brother is on Winthrop.
In!

29-4 with the losses coming against Maryland, ATM, and a coupla' other big boys I forget who at the moment. Very nice team.

degenerates? No Way!.

Good luck with your brackets, Mook.

i posted more than once why K-State would NOT get in....and looksy i was right. the Big XII deserved 3 teams. Tech got in because of Knight.

FT shooting will kill KU in a tight officiating game (which has always hurt the Big XII in the NCAA). if the other team gets in the double bonus with 10 minutes left in the second half, KU is in trouble. fouling KU will be a calculated risk a team with nothing to lose will take.

now, a KU team that passes on the 5-8 minute knucklehead trip they seem to go on can WIN. they just wear people out. too much athlete, too much D, too much scorers.

I'm not happy about ND's draw at all. That said, there is something special about this year's team, and I think we have what it takes to get out of the first round. However, one caveat: this is the best single-season record ND has put together since 85-86. That year, we wound up with a 3 seed, then proceeded to get bounced out in the first round by Arkansas-Little Rock. :brad:

I think Winthrop gives us fits for about 35 minutes or so, then we go on a run late to take care of business. Both teams drew a tougher first-round opponent than they should have.

I have fond memories of Kansas in the Tournament.
