Ok so its been a few months since I've seen people talking about losing weight. Of course I spend most of my time reading and monitoring the tech forum so I may have missed a few posts on the topic. This year when I finally decided to get serious, I decided to Join Team in Training to train for and ride in a century ride. The good news is so far in two months I've lost about 14 lbs due to riding a bike at least twice a week. We've so far rode about 45 miles in one day and this week is the 50 mile mark. I have to tell you that if you haven't thought about riding a bike to lose weight and get in shape, you should definately consider it because it is fun, gets you outisde and definately does a lot to get into shape.
Of course the other side to this ride is that we are all helping Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma society with fund raising and whiel I don't expect much if anything from you clowns, I figured I'd throw it in just in case anyone wants to help support LLS and the fight against blood cancers. On the off chance someone does wish to help out, I certainly would appreciate it.

Actually ElGordo (j/k), the best exercise for yourself is what you'll actually do. I considered getting a bike a few months ago, but enough peeps here convinced me to not do it in suburbia with Soccer Mom driving heavy SUV's while talking on a cell phone.
I listened to Mace talk about knee braces and then after listening to my dad, he said my back and knee situation would go away if I got arch supports from "The Good Feet Store." I thought it was bullshit but 2 months later my back and knee pain is gone. I was also told to get one of those exercise balls and thought it was a hoax. Nope, that damn thing makes you work your core muscles HARD if you use correct technique.

ok - starts at 7am, then 8 am, then it starts at noon and goes back in time 10 minutes to 11:50 followed by a 10 minute workout, effectively cancelling out all of your exercise for the day.

Hmm that seems to be a mistake...I'll fix it just for you MB.
I'm actually working out about 4 or 5 times a week now. I do either the spin classes that I have scheduled during the week or now that the weather is actually nice, I hit the W&OD trail that goes through our area all the way to DC. Yesterday for example I didn't go to spin class because we had some implementation issues at work. Instead I went on a 20 mile ride after work to help work off the stress of all the work BS. Today I put in 30 miles and I'll either go running or biking again tomorrow.
AP, Its not too bad. If you want to ride, there are plenty of places usually that are far away from the usual soccer moms. During our training so far we've gone on Public Trails, to National forests and twice now we've done back roads. You as the rider have to keep your head and be careful when you are riding on public roads, but it hasn't been bad so far. 2 months in and not even a close call so far.
I will also agre with you that the excercise balls are great. After reading about them in magazines I finally went out and purchased one for home so that if I feel the need to do a little excercising on my off days, I can use that for some core excercises and they will wear you out very quickly. I'll have to look into the arch support. I havent' had any problems with my back yet, but I have heard how important it is to make sure that your position on the bike is correct or else you can easily develop back problems.
