Mace, any idea why Iowa wasn't at all interested in Dana Altman?

I think this is a really good hire for Iowa. If Michigan can get a high caliber coach as well then the Big 10 will be the best coached conference from top to bottom without question.
"Our staff is going to ensure that anyone who attends this University and wears the Indiana uniform will make this privilege among their highest priorities and not treat the opportunity as an entitlement,'' Crean said in a statement. "We fully expect our student-athletes to accept the responsibilities academically, athletically and socially that come with representing one of the top programs in college basketball history."

Looks like UM got their man. This is an excellent hire for them. Big 10 getting back to being the conference of coaches.

I can see it now.

It's hard to win big in the Big 10 with all the great coaches beating up on each other...

I was so happy to hear it wouldn't be Altman. He is a mid-major coach. He could not win at any major college program. He'd never be able to recruit at Iowa. On top of that, he's a dickhead. I've never liked the guy. I was freaking out a week ago that we'd end up with that douchebag. He has no ties to any state worth a shit in terms of recruiting and his system is a mid-major system. 1-6 in the NCAA tournament is about as impressive as Alford. He was smart to back out at Arkansas, it would have been career suicide.

I like the Lickliter hire. He was one of the guys I had on my list of coaches I'd like Iowa to take a look at. My only question for him is can he bring in enough athletes to compete in the Big-10. His first recruiting task is to keep Tyler Smith and Tony Freeman at Iowa. If he does, with David Palmer being eligible to play next year, this could be a decent team. I like the nucleus of this ballclub assuming certain players improve and Smith and Freeman come back. But he is a quality guy that gets his team to play fundamentally sound basketball and will adjust his system to fit his teams strengths and to match up with an opponent.

altman is a midmajor guy, yet lickliter is a major coach? your a fucking idiot. altman did one hell of a job in manhatten, took a fucking garbage kst team and made them credible. altman is a major coach. having 16K+ for every home game is not midmajor.

iowa isnt much more than a midmajor program itself. they would struggle to make top 4 in mvc.

Why wouldn't you want a mid-major coach? Iowa's last Sweet 16 was 1999. Half the MVC has made it that far since then.
