I was at the fight last night... and I'm still stunned that Serra not only beat GSP but did so with strikes. He was like a 9 to 1 underdog. IMO, the biggest upset in MMA history.
I'm still pissed at the Sanchez/Koscheck fight. What a borefest that was. What was Diego doing?
Additional thoughts:
- I like a beer as much as the next guy but they shouldn't sell beer at UFC events. Immature guys + watching fights + alcohol = more fights in the stands than in the octagon. I saw two morons fight because an American guy told a Canadian guy that Canada sucks because GSP lost. I hope jail was worth it fellas. Canada sucks for many reasons, least of which is GSP. :D Although, the fight that broke out in the stands during the Sanchez/Koscheck fight was better than the one in the octagon.
- I would like to one day bring my son to an event like this but the alcohol fueled idiots all but ended that thought. Beyond the beer charged idiots fighting, is it really necessary to scream the F-word at the top of your lungs for the whole night. I don't hear that crap at baseball, basketball or football games.
- I understand that not everyone has been a MMA fan for years like myself but there's some ignorant bastards that shell out some serious money for tickets and have no idea what they're talking about. No more evident than the moron that was sitting next to me and my buddy. He was constantly confusing the fighters. I think GSP and Mike Swick might have been the only fighters that he was 100% sure of their identity. When former Pride HW Champ Minotauro Nogueira was introduced as UFC's newest acquisition, he turns to me and says "That's the big announcement? I was hoping for the announcement that Vitor Belfort was coming back to fight Chuck Liddell." I didn't know that anyone was clamoring for Belfort's return. All he has done is suck for the last three years. His "Hey, there's Randy Couture!" statement was entertaining (since it was Matt Hughes he was pointing out). I also liked his play-by-play to his buddy. His knowledge of jiu-jitsu and submission holds was certainly impressive.
- The constant booing the second a fight hits the ground flat out annoys me. Booing and screaming bullshit when hometown boy Mike Swick lost a decision was funny. He got his butt whipped the whole fight. What did they think the decison was going to be?

I watched the Serra-GSP fight at a bar with a buddy of mine who doesn't really follow UFC. I told him the fight wouldn't go past the first round. Not exactly what I was thinking, but I guess I was correct. Wow, two huge upsets in the last couple months. Looks like Hughes will fight Serra next.
