I think it's an interesting hire. Turgeon has done a nice job at WSU and views aTm as a nice move up, something that couldn't have been said a few years ago. I think you all did a nice job and he'll keep you all moving in the right direction.

eh, we'll see.

i think it's a bad move for aTm, a backwards step. but then again, gillespie didnt exactly help them by waiting for the kentucky job to be open.

i like what he's done at witchy st, but he's not the best coach in his conference. maybe not even top 3 in mvc.

but who knows, we shall see.

Big XII South is sure a different ballgame than 2 years ago with Knight, Barnes, Sampson, Eddie, Gillespie....now, minus the last 3.

I think Turgeon is a good hire. though, in football country he'll be competing with off the planet "What If Billy Clyde had stayed?" expectations from Ag hoops fan.

first close game Turgeon loses....it'll be: "BCG would have won that game...." etc.

That's some serious Jonsense you're talking Adel. Of course it was a backwards step. You don't lose one of if not THE hottest young up and coming coaches and replace him with someone better. There's a reason a storied program like UK wanted Gillispie, he's a helluva coach. So there was no question that ATM wouldn't be able to get an equal replacement. The best they could do was get a good coach who would have the best shot at maintaining the program at the level Gillispie had built it to. In hiring Turgeon I think they've done just that. Keeping DeAndre Jordan committed will play a huge role in the immediate future of ATM hoops.

I have no opinion on the dude. Basically, BCG fucked us. I seriously would have thought we would have tried for a bigger name, but this late in the game, there were few big names left. A&M is NOT a premier CBB job...not et at least. I doubt it ever will be to be honest. I'm still a fan of the team as I always have been. If we catch lightning in a bottle every 20 years, I'll be there to watch.

look at it this way Indy. Reportedly, Turgeon showed zero interest in the OU job last year....while he was very much on OU's real list. (not the one the OU Cletus types had with Calipari at the top).

ATM may not be a premier job and i'd say OU is a very good top 25-30 type job and Turgeon made the move to BCS and not Norman (no interest)....so, don't underestimate what BCG did to elevate the national status/rep of Ag hoops....from 0-16 4 years ago.

btw, i hated Turgeon as a player. FWIW, most speculated he was holding out for the KU job.

Well, not sure when Turgeon was offered at OU, but he might have been scared of whatever sanctions the NCAA might put on the program after the Sampson SWBYPS violations and didn't want to risk it.

Possibly. but, he wasn't offered. it didn't get that far. he was contacted and declined interest.

Had Self not taken the Kansas job there was a very real chance Turgeon may have been brought in. Maybe not but he would have received serious consideration. aTm did pretty good for themselves. Four years ago you would have struggled to attract a coach like Turgeon.

Gillispie didn't screw you over too bad, he put College Station on the map as a legitimate D-1 coaching job and if they keep their recruits and keep up winning they will throw enough $$$'s at the program to at least get it to the level of UT, and that ain't half bad.

We'll just see. Turgeon has made it clear in the past he would love the KU job. If he does ANYTHING at A@M and Self stumbles in the slightest, I would expect he'd bail on us too.

You're looking at least 7-10 years into the future at the soonest. Enjoy the next decade of Aggie hoops and cross that bridge when you need to!
