Old School Ska question

Post by BSmack »

I'm in the process of tryi8ng to digitaly preserve an old party tape from my college days. It's a collection of reggae, ska, rocksteady and dub music we called Cries From Babylon. The problem is, I don't have a song or artist list to go with the tape. Some of the stuff is obvious like the Marley, Tosh, Specials, Musical Youth tracks. But there are a few tracks that I just can't remember the names of the artists or song anymore. I figured some of you guys might be able to lend your musical expertise to my battle. So here's the first song that I can't identify.

Cries from Babylon song #3
"Once upon a time, dinosaurs didn't have families. They lived in the woods and ate their children. It was a golden age."

—Earl Sinclair

"I do have respect for authority even though I throw jelly dicks at them.

Unfreakinbeleivable. I knew I was posting this shit in the right spot. I always thought that they were saying Barnyard Connection. I guess that explains my total inability to Google the lyrics. This is going to be a bit of a process. Thanks for the help. This tape is truly a labor of love for me. I lost a lot of brain cells listening to this mix. I'll be posting more as soon as I get some more tracks recorded off the trusty ol' tape player.

Here's the track listings I have so far.

Cries From Babylon

Side one

Dillinger- Cocaine In My Brain
The Specials- Man At C&A
Fun Boy Three- Farmyard Connection
Some Sly and Robbie instrumental dub (I'll be postiing it later)
The Clash- The Crooked Beat
Mikey Dread- World War III
Bob Marley- Rastaman Vibration (from Babylon By Bus)
Bob Marley- No Woman No Cry (from Babylon By Bus)
Steel Pulse- Handsworth Revolution
The English Beat- Click Click
Another Dub instrumental- Unsure of the origin.

Side two

The Mighty Diamonds- Reggae Street
The Itals- Make Merry
The Itals- We Waan Justice
Peter Tosh- Legalize It
Musical Youth- Pass the Dutchie
Instrumental
Money Dread- Mikey Dread
Instrumental
Makin Histoy- Linton Kwesi Johnson
The Clash- Bankrobber
Joe Jackson- Battleground
Joe Jackson- Summer in the City

Thanks again. That one was really bugging me.

Will you be posting more songs and do I have to pay $0.99 a song?

I'm having real good luck googling the lyrics so far. But there's a few instrumentals I'll be needing some help with. Here's one

Help me!

You can send the 99 cents to Buckmonkey. ;)

BTW: It is just about impossible to find the Mikey Dread album World War III on CD. You've got a better chance of turning carbon into diamonds with a winepress. Unbelievable how rare some of this stuff is after just 25 years.
