I finally finished my first website. I'm really starting to believe I have OCD, beacuse, I've worked, tweeked, then completely redone this thing at least 5 times in the past 10 days.
The biggest problem is IE. We have 3 PCs in the house. My laptop running 6.0.2900.xxx.xxx , My wife's desktop now running 7.0 something and the kids puter running some version of IE6. I also have fiefox on mine.
The same page in IE on the different PCs looks 3 different ways. Even when I adjust the text on each, they are still different.
I can't count how many times I've run up and down the stairs looking at a page I just tweeked only to find it's fucked up on one of the other IEs.
One thing I picked up on quick is put everything inportant in tables and set the table widths to __ % (no more than 92%) of the screen and it will all size pretty well on every version. Had I know this one little tidbit going in, I probably could have save myself at least 6 hours and countless outbursts of "mother fucking shit".
At the end of the day, it's cool knowing how to do this, though layering is still beyond my grasp.
(I was trying to layer text over a moving .gif and it just never squared up on anything other than firefox)
But since 90% + of the world uses IE, I guess we just have to live with it.
If I see Bill Gates I will fight him.
The insanity of IE

Basic html has its drawbacks. IE has always been trouble to work with because its a MS product.
There are a lot of advanced programs that take html past some of the problems you have run into, but they take time and effort to learn.
rest easy. the site looks good. For someone so new, you did a good job.
Hopefully no one using win 98 or win 2000 will visit your site, though. ;)
